I may be wrong in my analysis. But Matthews wants to draw an audience. One of the best techniques for establishing credibility is to behave in a way that appears antithetical to one's perceived bias. Matthews is perceived as a liberal. He can attempt to accomplish 2 things by saying he voted for Bush, or by actually voting for Bush: (1) increase credibility, and (2) increase viewership among conservatives while not losing liberals. Matthews' voting for Bush in no way suggests to me that he is no longer a flaming liberal. It is a self-serving ploy, as far as I'm concerned. I don't trust the little b*tch!
