Sowell was only indirectly defending the pharmaceutical industry. The primary point was that patents are essential to justifying companies R&D expenses. Both Thomas Sowell and I would agree with you on the FDA and the Socialist companies in bed with it.

Cool. I'm with you then. I fully agree with the patent part as well. There is just something about the drug companies that bugs me and I have trouble using them as a good representation for "industry" in general. Not that I want the government to "regulate" them to "correct" any inherent injustice with respect to them mind you. On the contrary, I would prefer to see the government back off altogether. It is through government protection and collusion that the big drug companies are able to continue with their evil.
