You can spin the story of the Canannites all you like. The reality was the Canaanites, like the Taliban, were butchers that were sacrificing their own children (Lev. 18:21). Thbe culture deserved to be destroyed for the same reason the United States is destroying the Taliban and for the same reason the Allied Forces destroyed Adolph Hilter and the Nazis.

That was the propaganda of the day yes. The truth of the matter is that the Israelites wanted the land and were going to take it by force regardless of the actual circumstances. It was promised to them by God after all.
