November 16, 2001; Many security officials are convinced that the next wave of attacks will come from truck bombs (a favorite of al Qaeda) rather than more airplanes. Police found that Nabil al-Marabh (linked to bin Laden) had attended a truck driving school and had obtained a permit to haul hazardous materials. When police went to arrest him, they found two Arab immigrants who had also attended truck driving schools. Further investigation found 18 Middle Eastern men in Pennsylvania, all of whom had licenses for large trucks and hazardous materials. There are estimated to be 770,000 trucks on the road in the US every day with hazardous materials (gasoline, nuclear waste, chemicals, explosives), including 50,000 gasoline tankers (each of which carries about 10,000 gallons, the fuel load of a trans-continental airliner. Trucking companies have been warned to check everyone who has a hazardous materials permit. Truck driving licenses are fairly easy to get, and in many states a hazardous materials license requires only passing a multiple choice test of ten questions.
Here is an article that could prove you are correct about truck bombs being used by AlQaeda terrorists in the US:
Secrets of Al-Queda: Network studied Oklahoma-style bomb Foreign Affairs

THE terror organisation of Osama Bin Laden drew up plans to copy the Oklahoma City bomb, which claimed the lives of 168 people in 1995.
A do-it-yourself guide, detailing the components needed to make the bomb and written by a Bosnian recruit to Bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network, was among documents and weapons found last week in the basement of a Kabul mansion used by the terrorists.
The author of the notebook was one of 200 young militants drawn to Afghanistan for a holy war against America and its allies. They fled from Kabul on Monday night.
The bomber and his fellow fanatics from Somalia, Algeria, Bosnia, Uzbekistan, Sudan and the Dagestan region of Russia left behind 22 Milan anti-tank missiles as well as step-by-step instructions on how to lay minefields and topple skyscrapers. But it was the bomb-making manual with diagrams, mathematical equations and the initially puzzling codeword CHON that sheds most light on Bin Laden's organisation.
On one page, under the title Explosivija za Oklahomu, the owner of the notebook had scribbled formulas with inscriptions in English for TNT, ammonium nitrate and nitro-glycerine. The Oklahoma bomb was made from ammonium nitrate and fuel oil.
The Cole was attacked on October 12. Subtract 27 days gives you September 15. Does Ramadan change by 2 full months in one year?
That would be December 13 if ramadan was November 16 . . .
I know truckers as the ones driving their 80,000 pound rigs 85 mph in 55 zones six feet behind the bumper of anyone not fast enough to get out of their way. I glance up at them and they are (often) long-haired freaky looking dudes who look very much like they are on crystal meth. Or that they MANUFACTURE crystal meth and are hauling a shipment. When I was growing up (a hundred years ago) truckers were well known as the most responsible and courteous drivers on the road.
Anyway, I digress. Here is what I think will happen:
ONE truck bomb goes off, and every one of these truckers---average age 28 maybe? (I bring that up to say they are young and full of the spit and vinegar of youth, and they aren't exactly members of your local Beethoven Society or other genteel stuff)---will turn every truckstop into Vigilante-ville. I mean that in a good way. I mean, my guess is that these guys are kick-ass patriots who will do Charlie Daniels proud and will personally police themselves. My guess is that they will inspect their own trucks at truck stops and rest stops and will root out the perps or the trick loads.
Anyone have an opinion along that line?
Lately I've had a great number of trojan attempts thwarted by my Norton Firewall. Most recently just a few minutes ago while I was on FR.

It seems possible to me that some geek sleepers are trying to disrupt (or otherwise) hack our Nations networks.
Anyone else similarly assaulted?
I also take a lot of comfort in the fact that this is a bunch of stupid Arabs we're up against and they have a way of turning every operation into a clown show. How about the guy in the 1993 WTC bombing that went back to the truck rental place and tried to get his deposit back. It takes a whole legion of these clowns to do the work of one real soldier.
Now if we had Germans or Swiss on our case, then I would be too scared to leave the house.
the swiss? like they have ever left happy valley with their full-autos?
close the shutters, martha, the swiss are coming. what are you going to do if
the french attack? hide under the covers? aaaaggh french! we must eat in tonight!
Well I don't think that can be said with certaintly. It would not take a big huge truck bomb to put people in a panic. Three truck bombs going off in three locations around the country in mall parking lots on the same day, during Christmas shopping season, even if they did not kill anyone would cause a huge concern. It would hurt the economy and that would hurt the US.
Off to the watch the meteor shower, finally a clear night.
