Just Walked out of San Diego Town Hall!
Hildy
Posted on 11/16/2001 7:23:32 PM PST by Hildy
I don't know why I thought this Town Hall would be interesting. The audience was stacked, Peter Jennings voice is even MORE annoying in person and I was surrounded by foolish students who told me that we must look at the reasons why the world hates us so much. 15 minutes into it, a Muslim guy got up and all full of self-righteousness stated how awful the community is being treated. Roger Hedgecock pointed out that it is normal that people would feel uneasy and that people within the Muslim community should understand, being that some of the hijackers were housed and aided by the San Diego Muslim community. Somebody screamed that Roger was a Hate-monger and I got up and left.
As I was leaving, there were 20 cops and a bomb sniffing dog doing his thing.
I guess whoever made the threat that brought out the bombs was mad at the US for past atrocities, huh?

It was awful. Roger said that reporters should not be in this war zone. Period. You should have seen the look on Jennings' face. He said that since the media is so Anti-American, it's like aiding the enemy, or something like that.

"I guess whoever made the threat that brought out the bombs was mad at the US for past atrocities, huh?" I know of an ex-president who would have you think so.
Astounding! With 90% of the nation united behind the war effort, the left can still find fora that will give them a hearing. No matter how absurd their rants, some will listen. Even, nod. And give them credence...
It is not the committed, political leftists I object to. They have their agenda...and they're sticking to it. It is their enablers that leave me filled with disgust.
Shame you couldn't have launched a over-ripe tomato at some pompous jerk. Not Jennings, necessarily...

I watched the last 60 minutes of this town hall, and thought that the audience was very much pro-US and anti-mainstream media. I thought they responded well to Roger's views, when he had the chance to present them.
Of the panelists, Roger Hedgecock was the only non-journalist (self-proclaimed), and probably was the only one who can speak well extemporaneously. The newspaper people were more nervous because they are not on TV. The local TV people all claimed to be journalists, but are really news readers and sometime reporters not focused on political or foreign affairs stories. And then there was Petah.
The oh-so-arrogant Petah Jennings tried hard to control the flow of answers, while giving his familiar spin of "moderation" to his answers. He is so knowledgable about everything from Sikhism to diversity in media. He, of course, claimed to be a journalist in the mold of Edward R. Murrow.
All the TV folks (Petah included) claimed they were just trying to tell the story from all sides. Petah said the reason ABC had the Afghan civilian casualty story was that they had a reporter inside Ashcanistan, so of course they told the story he saw. Roger's attempt to point out that the Taliban was using the reporter was brushed off by Petah.
That's my two cents on an interesting but unfulfilling hour. It beat Jeopardy and Jeff Greenfield for my attention. Then I discovered Newt was on CSPAN testifying about the National ID card. I shoulda watched Newt.

Peter Jennings on US efforts
===========================
"We LOVE Peter Jennings, hero to our cause and always eager for his Palestinian harem (wink)"
To: Hildy
Oh man, I would have paid money to see Roger Hedgecock going up against Peter Jennings. Hedgecock is absolutely fearless. He coined the great phrase "recovering politician" to describe himself when he started his radio show (he was mayor of San Diego in the mid 1980s.) I listened to his show religiously when I lived in SD ten years ago.
Was this live on ABC? If not, when will it be broadcast?
To: Hildy
I saw it on TV. I've seen Roger in action many times and he was quite subdued tonight compared to what he has been in the past. And still he got booed.....

It was on Channel 10 in San Diego. I don't think it was broadcast nationally.

There was a disgusting looking guy who kept yelling that roger was a hate-monger. On my way out I bent over to the guy and told him he was an idiot.

I didn't realize just how much I hated Peter Jennings until tonight. I never listen to him, just the teasers they show on ABC.

I'm sorry, I couldn't stay. They will probably have it up at KOGO for future viewing. I'll let you know. Believe me, if I could have stood it at all, I would have stayed. It was that painful.

Maybe you just had to see it in the flesh how truly annoying Peter Jennings really is?

"Dont hate my Peter. He loves women ... like me. He also refuses to report our flag burning."
