Peter Jennings is the best argument I know for tightening up the Canadian border.

He coined the great phrase "recovering politician" to describe himself when he started his radio show (he was mayor of San Diego in the mid 1980s.) I listened to his show religiously when I lived in SD ten years ago.

Don't be fooled by his schtick whether on KOGO, on TV (how STUPID is ABC to let him on TV again), or from behind the "Golden EIB mic" for Rush. Roger's no less a politician than when he was ousted (resigned when indicted) from the mayor's office in a campaign finance scandal. He insists the case was baseless, ran by an out of control prosecutore, backed by people who wanted to do what they couldn't do at the ballot box. He claims his conviction was overturned by the CA Supreme Court. It's so that his 12 perjury convictions--from the 2nd trial, the first was a hung jury--were reversed. His felony conviction was reversed to a misdemeanor and later dismissed with him still paying a $5000 fine. Oddly enough, his lawyer was (I think) ex-mob lawyer, the now Las Vegas mayor.

"... we must look at the reasons why the world hates us so much." Why don't the leftniks ever give the Clintons that advice?

Oh, I know the whole story about Hedgecock. He was a bad politician, for sure, but he is a good radio talker. He is also an equal opportunity basher - I have heard him go after bad Republicans (of which there are unfortunately many in San Diego) just as hard as bad Democrats. I have not heard him doing Rush's show. When I was in San Diego he was leading the "light up the border" group that was trying desperately to call attention to the flood of illegals coming over the border. He was called a racist and every other name in the book by the liberals, which endeared me to him immediately. I wish more people had listened to him then. He also got reeeeeally mad when President Bush reneged on his "no-new-taxes" pledge in 1990, and got a bunch of people to protest at the local RINO congressman's office. I liked that, too.

People/Institutions Handling War on Terrorism

"The vast majority of Americans approve of the way top administration officials and the major governmental institutions are handling the war on terrorism, but a majority of Americans disapprove of the news media's performance. Low ratings of the media appear fairly consistently across the many demographic subgroups of the public, implying a widespread consensus on this matter. A review of polling data suggests that news coverage of the anthrax scare, when many people said the media overerreacted, may be a factor in the media's low ratings. Another factor may be a tension between the traditionally confrontational role of the news media and the currently high levels of public support for government officials directing the war.

"The Nov. 8-11 poll found 89% of all Americans approving of the way President George W. Bush is handling the war, and 87% approving of Secretary of State Colin Powell's performance. Eighty percent approve of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's performance, while 77% each approve of the performance of Attorney General John Ashcroft, Congress, and the U.S. Postal Service. Vice President Dick Cheney's approval rating is at 75%, compared with 71% for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and 60% for Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge. The lower approval rating for Ridge is partly due to the fact that about a quarter of the public has not heard of him. Only 14% say they disapprove. By comparison, just 43% of Americans approve of the way the news media have been handling the war, and 54% disapprove."

Gallup Poll

Cheers!

"... we must look at the reasons why the world hates us so much."

is logically the same as:

"... we must look at the reasons why the man raped you, young lady. Perhaps your clothes were too provocative or perhaps you flirted too much, as clearly the rapist is innocent of his crime because you forced him to engage in such behavior."

That's called "blaming the victim." The U.S. isn't guilty of the WTC/Pentagon/Pennsylvania terrorist attacks, the terrorists are. However, the moral relativists left in the world want to blame us, the victims of those attacks, rather than those who perpetrated the attacks.

And that's precisely the same as blaming the girl for getting raped instead of blaming the rapist. Such fool-headed thinking has dominated Left-Wing universities for almost 30 years, too.

You left out the small part about WHY his conviction was overturned. A little thing called JURY TAMPERING.
