To: Straight Vermonter
So it's ok for kids to read about sex and violence {anyone else here ever forced to read any Shakespeare in high school?} but taboo for them to see anything depicted visually?

Perhaps we should issue blinders along with school books.

Are you serious? You would actually argue a point by categorizing classic Shakespearean literature with “The Blair Witch Project” and “American History X” ? Somebody pinch me; I am most certainly dreaming.

Actually, my teacher sent home a notice in high school when we were going to view a Shakespeare film that contained bad language. I think the issue is the notification.

On another point:
she said, they also served a purpose. “That is what real life is about and we’re high school students and we should know what is really going on,” she said. “

And the students think they can have adult conversations that mean anything?
