So it's ok for kids to read about sex and violence {anyone else here ever forced to read any Shakespeare in high school?} but taboo for them to see anything depicted visually?

Are you serious? You would actually argue a point by categorizing classic Shakespearean literature with The Blair Witch Project and American History X ? Somebody pinch me; I am most certainly dreaming.
Actually, my teacher sent home a notice in high school when we were going to view a Shakespeare film that contained bad language. I think the issue is the notification.
On another point:
she said, they also served a purpose. That is what real life is about and were high school students and we should know what is really going on, she said.
And the students think they can have adult conversations that mean anything?
