Great words you wrote. Makes me smile.
The Russians spent how many years trying to fight these people? Just goes to show, when the big boys are playing you don't have a chance.
However, those years had the USA opposing the Russians(USSR). In this war, the Talibans are all alone with EVERY country and power AGAINST the Taliban. Plus, most of their weapons are dated by now.
Our big boys (Bush's entire team) are fantastic! And just goes to show that Clinton really was a wimp. He had all that potential power behind him and he only used it to better himself. I hope the whole world understands that now.
...Our egomaniac ex... No need to add any more to your very astute statement. RIGHT ON!!!!

>> The other point you raise does indeed baffle me - if there are 20,000 Arabs and Taliban in Kunduz then they should definitely be able to break out<<
It's a long way to Saudi Arabia, and everyone outside of Kunduz wants them dead.
Unlike Talibanians who "see the light", these Arabs have no future in Afghanistan. They have every reason to hold out, and no reason to give up.

P.S. Hope your stomach stops turning, now that things are going a bit better for us. :-)

BREAKOUT attempt by the Taliban so as to high tail it to the Pakistani border???? Kunduz is wayyy up north, the nearest Paki border is about 140 miles southeast thru Hindu Kush (& a bunch of NA).
If he has to get out, Uzbekistan is some 30 miles north, and they will kill him and his troops on the spot.
Poor Omar, I think the fat lady is clearing her throat.

When Rumsfeld and Gen. Franks briefed today, they both said they believed these forces numbered 2 or 3 thousand--it is the media claiming 20 or 30 thousand...

"That could be very heavy, if they are all dropping Daisy Cutters!" For the record, B-52s don't carry Daisy Cutters. The bomb is too big to fit in the bay.
Instead, they're mounted on pallets and skidded out the back of a C-130 by deploying a parachute. Kinda low tech. But effective...

I was thinking more of those Taliban thugs doing the ETHNIC CLEANSING
Ouch, me stupid, sorry. I was quite surprised to find you worrying about these poor little Arabs since your other posts indicate that you are reasonable and smart:-)).
How much damage they would be able to do depends probably on their number, and as we can see on the thread there are conflicting reports. I also don't know how large Kunduz is, and whether the civilian population (if there is such a thing in Afghanistan) would be able to kick them out.

Thank you!

Run for your lives folks - Mutha Omar has said that this strategic withdrawal is all part of a strategic plan that will bring Ameerica to its' knees very soon.
I'd get under the bed if there was room -

This is the area that was reported to have been 'heavily' bombed by our planes today. (six planes, heavily?)If B-52s are involved, yes it would be very heavy.

I agree with your assessment, but would still think that they would try to reach Southern Afghanistan and reunite with the rest of the bunch. But it's probably a mistake to project my thinking onto them, because if they would think like I do they would all be having a normal job and be raising a family, or something a wee bit more productive than their current occupation.

I haven't seen the guy but the tall skinny magician you're thinking of might be Doug Henning.

The special force should be looking under every burkah Afghanistan for these guys.
These great 'Islamic warriors' are probably trying to sneak out of the country by hiding 'under women's skirts.'
