ABC reporting that sources at the FAA are saying the plane awaiting takeoff behind the plane that crashed...saw smoke coming out of engine during ascent.

As far as our military jets scrambling to intersect or shoot down this plane, I haven't heard anyone mention the speed of the plane at take off. I think it's around 200 MPH, so if the crash site was 5 miles away, as MSNBC reported, the plane was only in the air ~1/40th of an hour, less than 2 minutes before the crash. No plane could get there fast enough to make any difference.

ummm .. SOME smoke is always visible. Did they report it as UNUSUAL?
