To: gridlock
It's a Federal Holiday today. One would expect their to be fewer passenger on this flight. That may be good news. Of course, the Terrorists on 9/11 picked flights they knew would be lightly loaded.

Flight 587 to Santo Domingo. I guess it was outbound. Would have been fully fueled.

Airbus A-300, according to ABCNews.

An Airbus A-300 looks a lot like a 757. Both twin engine wide bodies.

Sorry to break this to you, but the flights to the Carribbean are usually packed. Many Dom. Republic residents fly back and forth to and from NYC to see relatives, etc. Doesn't make me feel any better as I'm flying to San Juan on Saturday, or at least am scheduled to at this point.

Was outbound, probably mechanical problems and returned a few minutes into the flight. The thing that doesn't make sense is the color of the smoke indicates low fuel.
