USO Canteen Freeper Style 11-10-01 Happy Birthday, Marines

USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

And he's here - in a group I just finished and posted a few minutes ago! I decided against the diving suit in favor of one that shows his blonde good looks. (Are you blushing, Dave?)

Thanks Billie for all you are doing here in the Canteen. I can't wait to see what you have in store for tomorrow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARINES!!!!! Thanks for everything you've done for us and are presently doing for us. LOVE YA!!!!!

We live in a small town and the newspaper put an insert in with pictures of ALL of the military men and women past and present. It was SOOOOOO Cool. The insert was bigger than the whole paper. LOL....It was a great tribute. :)

A bartender is sitting behind the bar on a typical day, when the door bursts open and in come four exuberant Marines. They come to the bar and order five bottles of beer and ten glasses. They take their order over and sit down at a large table. The caps are popped, the glasses are filled and they begin toasting and chanting, "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" Soon three more Marines arrive, take up their drinks and the chanting grows, "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" Two more Marines show up and soon their voices are are joined in raising the roof, "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" Finally the tenth Marine comes in with a picture under his arm, he walks over to the table, and sets the picture in the middle and the table erupts.

Up jump the others, they begin dancing around the table, exchanging high-fives, all the while chanting, "51 days, 51 days, 51 days!" The bartender can't contain his curiosity any longer, so he walks over to the table. There in the center is a beautifully framed child's puzzle of the cookie monster. When the frenzy dies down a little bit the bartender asks one of the Marines, "Whats all the chanting and celebration about?"

The Marine who brought in the picture pipes in, "Everyone thinks that Marines are dumb and they make fun of us. So, we decided to set the record straight. Ten of us got together, bought this puzzle and put it together. The side of the box said 2-4 years, but we put it together in 51 days."

*********************************************************

This Marine, all messed up from Vietnam, went to the hospital to get checked. Because of the war, his brain was all scewed up, and all he could say was the words to the Marines hymn.

So the doctor asked his name, he replied, "From the halls of Montezuma..."

The doctor decided to remove part of his brain, thinking that would cure it. When the doctor did this, the Marine still said "From the halls of Montezuma..."

The doctor figured he did not remove enough of the brain. So after removing some more, the marine still only said those words.

The doctor, now getting frustrated, decided to take the rest of the brain out. Now the Marine, with no brain, stood up and started singing, "Be all that you can be..."

*********************************************************

T'was the night before Christmas
and all the the Corps
Not a sole had liberty,
the troops were all sore.

Yes, every Marine
every Marine in the lot
was lying on a rack of nails
called a Marine Corps Cot.

When out on the Parade Deck
I heard such a clatter,
I sprang from my cot
to see what the hell was the matter.

With bayonet in hand
I moved stealthily to the door
I cautiously waited to see
if there were more.

Yes, it was the Commandant of Marines
this there was no doubt
he was wearing his poncho
green side out.

He carefully moved from rack to rack
he cautiously inspected each rifle and pack
to a chosen few a 96 chit
but to the majority a ration of s*it

As he pulled away in his gold plated tank
pulled by ten colonels all bucking for rank
I heard him say, and he said with a shout
Merry Christmas you suckers you'll never get out.

*********************************************************

At the end of the night a Marine leaves a bar.

Outside he sees a nun. He walks over to her and slaps her in the face. Then he punches her in the stomach and knocks her over.

He proceeds to kick her several times and when he's done he bends down to her and says, "Not as tough as a Marine, are you Batman?"

*********************************************************

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to THE CORPS!

Thanks for your patriotism, Snow Bunny!

Chesty and his son, Lewis B. Puller, Jr. when he was sworn in as a Marine officer, 1967.

Lewis, Jr. lost both his legs and most of his hands in Vietnam, and then lost his mind to addictions and died by his own hand in 1994. His book, "Fortunate Son", is a good one. It would fill any jarhead's stocking nicely in about 6 weeks.

I lurk around the canteen quite often... everyone has sooo much fun. I'm afraid I can't keep up with y'all though. I love to dance and I love music and I love food, so one day very soon I will get up the nerve to JUMP right in there. *giggle* I'm really glad that there isn't any calories in the food here. It will help me through the holidays. :)

I got a million Sea Stories and for those of you that don't know what a Marine Corps Sea Story is
A fairy tale starts out "Once Upon a time...." and a Sea Story starts out "This is no BS I knew this Marine that...."
Well you get the picture, I perfer to tell ones that I know to be true either from first hand experiance or from credible sources verified by others that were there.
Now you don't have to believe me, But This is no BS I knew this Marine crew chief that.....

Rigged up a exercise Bike in a CH-53D helocopter,
Every time They would pick up a platoon of Grunt He would jump on the bike and pedal as fast as he could when ever the pilot took off
and continue pedaling while the Helo flew around....
well almost alway some times he would slow down,
and every time he did he would tell the pilot over the mike on his helmet that he was slowing,
and the pilot would make the helo drop in altitude to match him slowing down,
they would do this several times until the grunt saw the pattern of Bike slows down,
helo goes down,
Bike speeds up,
Helo goes up...
after a while the crew chief would jump off the bike to answer a hand signal from the Co-pilot to look at a map.
and with out fail there would be at least nine grunts trying to jump on the bike and continue pedaling.

As the story was relayed to me the crew chief in question was Sgt. Dewey Johnson,
You may not have heard of him.
He died in Iran at a place called Desert One.
And many times I flew with him...
but I never saw the bike!

Happy Birthday Dewey and Semper Fi!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL THE MARINES AND A BIG OLE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE SERVED OR ARE SERVING THIS WONDERFUL COUNTRY.

I found this picture of some of the crew of the USS Theodore Roosevelt who are serving today in the Persian Gulf. To all of those who have contributed to the GUILD CARE package and Christmas stocking project, this is where our "stuff" is going. Copies of this USO thread are also being sent to these fine young men.

Crew members of the USS Theodore Roosevelt cheer as they watch a closed circuit broadcast to the crew of successful bombing runs against Taliban targets in Afghanistan, November 9, 2001. The footage they watched was shot by Navy and Marine pilots making the runs from the aircraft carrier operating in the Arabian Sea. The seaman wearing the red shirts prepare the bombs that are loaded on the aircraft. REUTERS/POOL/Dave Martin

That is one of the saddest photos I never saw before; I knew how it ended, and that makes it worse!
