Bush May Order Everyone Injected With Smallpox Vaccine

All Americans could be forced to have smallpox jabs under plans being considered by President Bush, despite fears that such a programme would kill hundreds.
Underlining White House fears about America's vulnerability to a new wave of bioterrorism, Mr Bush said that he was discussing with Tommy Thompson, the Health Secretary, whether to order mandatory vaccinations.
"One of my concerns is if we were to have universal vaccination, some might lose their life," he said. "But I'm looking at all options, all possibilities."
Authorities in the US have already announced that they intend to stockpile 300 million doses of smallpox vaccine, enough for the country's 260 million citizens. But last night was the first time that anyone had suggested they would be compulsory rather than used to cover an emergency.
Mr Bush made his remarks yesterday as he was touring the Centres for Disease Control in Atlanta, which houses one of only two officially kept samples of smallpox since the World Health Organisation declared in 1979 that the virus had been eradicated. Earlier this week scientists at the Vektor Institute in Siberia, which holds the other sample, gave warning that underpaid Russian workers could be tempted to sell the virus to terrorists.
The last case of smallpox was in 1977. The vaccine is fatal for one in a million cases.

It might be smarter for the President to strongly recommend that everyone be injected, and make the vaccine free of charge to anyone who shows up.. not just citizens.. smallpox won't ask for your immigration status before it gets you.. The recommendation to take the vaccine is already there when they offer for people to take it. Also, the offer to take the vaccine free of charge is there as well, by providing proof of citizenship.

Any news on Gulf War Syndrome? Please apologists, don't tell me it's bunk. I knew someone who had it (he didn't tell me, my boss did after the guy finally quit - I knew he was ghostly white and sick and always kept the lights off in his office, but never knew why). Anyway, many "tinfoilers" as they will shortly be labeled by multiple people here, suggested that it may have come from mandatory vaccinations. The same tinfoilers also point out that these types of vaccinations on US troops were always preliminary tests for the population as a whole.
Anyway, I never had reason to keep up. Would love a link to read about more recent speculation and / or discoveries, especially as they would apply it to recent events. Was it Joyce Riley? Does she have a site?

It's martial law, not Marshall law. Marshall (John) died in the 19 century. Marshall (George) died in the fifties. That's all the Marshall's I can think of off the top of my head, but you get the idea.

the president can't order anyone to be vacinated...
To: Frohickey
You only endanger yourself, and others who have not been vaccinated.Which is why that number must be as small as possible.
Since these others, by not taking the vaccine, have already decided to take the chance of getting smallpox, and are endangering themselves, I do not see any issue.
As usual with this sort of argument, you demonstrate a failure to comprehend that a bunch of sick people is a HUGE public health problem, that has to be dealt with. In essence you're asking everyone else to take the risk so you don't have to, and then you want us to take care of you if you get sick.
To you it seems like an individual decision with no ramifications beyond yourself, but you're wrong.

Five hundred Muslims died in the 9/11 attacks. I don't think these folks worry a whole heck of a lot about who they hurt.

To those silly ninnies who say "They can't make me take it, I have rights!" I'd like to remind you that we are AT WAR, with an enemy that may well have this particular weapon. If you are unwilling to be vaccinated, then you will endanger others. Whom could they endanger except those others who chose not to be vacinated?
Some people just can't believe the world can exist unless some others are forcing people to do what they do not want to do. Why would such people be interested in a forum call free republic?

You're right, of course. I have been awake continually for two days, and parts of my higher cerebral function is shutting down.

The states can prevent your children from attending school without them, prevent you from taking or keeping a job without them, and if there is an outbreak (which could spread quickly, since it is an airborne disease with a pretty long incubation period), you can be forcibly quarantined.First of all, I plan to be vaccinated if it is made available because I think it is the right thing to do. It will, however, be practically impossible to force the vaccination of every person in the United States. Nobody is going to threaten me or force me to do anything without the fight of his life and I guarantee there are a lot more just like me out there.

I am 61, I remember for sure that I was vaccinated twice. It seems to me I was vaccinated at least one more time.
I never got a sore nor the scar. The doctors told my mother, that I must immune to it.
