Surely the multi-cultural tendency of the American left elite, is a large factor in the failure to assimilate by immigrants, but there are too many immigrants coming into the country to be assimilated by our culture. At the same time as immigration[legal and illegal] has been drastically increased, Americans as a group have become introspective, and sometimes downright ashamed of their past. This dual pressure, is what is responsible for the problem of assimilation. The newcomers see no pride of citizenship, and are not in a position to lead. Without the pressure of massive influx of newcomers, this introspection would eventually pass, and a balance would be reached. Clearly we must return every illegal immigrant that we can, set firm limits to new immigration, and begin the process of teaching the newcomers, and those youngsters that are ignorant, the rich history of our culture, and restore the pride of ownership, that is our heritage.
