Map at # 452. It is located in the hills of Central California.
The place is still there! I was hoping more research was being done and reported here!
This is serious business freepers, and we are getting new warnings while these places exist all over the country!
I did a little research on some of the news articles. I was not able to get the Bee archives to find the story that implied the perp. was trained for the way the officer was killed. I will continue to hunt and post if I find it.
Here is part of the Aug 23 account by the local ABC channel. URL Link at the end of the article for the full story by ABC 30.
Telen's fellow officers raced to save his life after he was gunned down inside a foothill home while checking for a burglar.
Sheriff Richard Pierce called the deputy's death an assassination.
Deputy Telen leaves behind two daughters and his wife, who is expecting their third child. The man police say shot Telen is in jail facing murder and burglary charges. Bail is set at more than $6 million for Ramadan Abdullah. Investigators are checking reports that Abdullah had been staying at a Muslim retreat in Badger, not far from the Dunlap shooting. The Muslim center is located on the former Synanon compound. About 50 families moved into the "Muslims of America" camp a few years ago, after converting the 1,800 acre property into a commune.

Muslims victimized
Attiyyah Amatullah, Baladullah

As a parent residing in Baladullah, Calif., I am appalled with the accusatory trend the media has taken toward Muslims. Along with my two children, my husband and I have lived in the Muslim village in the foothills above Fresno for about four years. We chose to relocate to the mountains because of the degradation prevalent in the cities. I wanted to protect my children from gang warfare, crude language and lewd and illegal behavior on every street corner. It is a travesty to all Americans that my children are being targeted by a mob created by the media.
We are law-abiding, tax-paying American Muslims. Both the Fresno and Tulare county sheriffs departments have visited and toured our gated community. It is not a compound or a terrorist camp. However, because of unsubstantiated allegations broadcast by Channel 30, the innocent Muslims in the mountains are now the victims of hate crimes and terrorism. I am afraid of the sentiments expressed in the opinion printed Nov. 20. I am afraid that on a field trip to the zoo, my 4-year-old Muslim son will be targeted and harmed by some nut who thinks he's acting in the interest of national security. And why do I have to be fearful of allowing my daughter to go to the mailbox at the front of the property for fear that a vigilante will drive by and "take revenge"?
Far from allaying the fears of the American public concerning the peaceful religion of Islam, the media have forgone the opportunity to bridge a cultural gap. The story was specifically aired to take place during "sweeps" week. However, I have faith in the intellect of my fellow Americans to see past the sensationalism of the Channel 30 report. They know that the ATF, FBI and the CIA would not allow such a public threat to exist. The fact is we are no public threat. My kid is concerned about what people are saying about Muslims. "Why are the people mad at all the Muslims? We haven't done anything wrong. Real Muslims don't hurt people, they help them to love and pray to God."
