FORT WORTH, Texas -- A "strip serve" drill played by girl volleyball players at a North Texas middle school was halted after parents complained to school officials.
Three female coaches supervised the 22 eighth-graders while they played the game during practice. The drill required team members to take off shoes, socks, kneepads or hair accessories if a player missed a serve.
The drill was stopped after a few girls decided to undress further, school officials said.
School officials said the drill was inappropriate and never should have been conducted.
"I thought it was the most stupid thing I ever heard. You just don't do things like that," Northwest school district Superintendent Keith Sockwell told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in Tuesday's editions.
An investigation of the Sept. 21 incident began after several parents complained about the activity. Statements were taken from the players and the coaches, officials said. The girls' written statements indicated that they were not upset about the game, Pike Middle School Principal Kyle Copp said. The coaches were "remorseful," he said. District officials declined to name the coaches or say whether they were reprimanded, but said they are still employed by the district.
Hey, guess-who's post #2 got yanked whilst I was sitting here composing mine above-- he was clamoring for pics again and the S&M brigade just got fed up to here with that, I guess... Hahaha!
Thank God our hockey coach never made us do strip breakaway drills.
It was the GIRLS who decided to undress further, according to the report. The school should not be coming under fire for kids' bad behavior.
The so-called "teachers" knew damn well how suggestive this idea was. Classic pedophiliac behavior.
Our kids aren't experimen, let alone undermining the values of. We have an example of, at best, collective stupidity here by three teachers who ought to be named, shamed, and fired. But you defend them?
Reminds me of the constant warnings by teachers about the horrors of children being taught by "unceredentialed teachers."
Funny, but when they give competency tests (about 8th grade graduation level) to credentialed teachers, generally a third fail, and the other two-thirds defend them. What's the problem here? You have tenure, so speaking out for excellence and high standards of behavior shouldn't be a big risk.
The priority of teaching ought to be knowledgable and literate students. However, the conclusion that the public inevitably draws from positions such as the one you're taking is that the priority of teachers...
is teachers.
And whoops, that all happened on another thread on the same topic...
I think it's a problem that the coaches were so naive they didn't expect any of the girls to take it beyond the parameters. That said, I don't think they are guilty of anything worse than horrifically bad judgement, not of being the pedophilic monsters some folks here think they are. I think a formal reprimand and a good chewing out would be a sufficient punishment.
'Just what the doctor ordered' for the coaches involved, seemingly!
