The China’s best scenario is that the Afghan war becomes a hemorrhage on U.S. now weakened economy and military power for the next 10 years.

How is this a "best scenario" for the next 10 years? What other trading partner can take our place with China?

The tone of your post suggests that you believe the US will falter on the world stage. You've underestimated the cleverness of the American people. We'll survive and prevail while our Chinese "friends" will stumble sooner or later. It's the nature of their centralized system. They aren't good at democracy. They are good at bullying their people and anyone else who dares to criticize them.

The crocodile tears they shed over their embassy and their suicidal military pilots make good daytime soap operas but have little effect on world opinion.

Dear Glenn:

Thank you for your reply to my post. You have misread the intention of my post. I did not suggest that I believe the U.S. will falter on the world stage. I am totally for democracy and has always been on America’s side all my life. The point I’m getting at is:

1) Know you adversary.
2) The Chinese general public’s sentiment towards America as described in the original post of twntaipan is all true. They were jeering and elated after the Sept 11 attack.
3) It is the hope of 99% of all the Chinese population that the U.S. will falter on the world stage. What’s sickening is that 99% includes some Chinese living outside of Communist rule and enjoying democracy.
4) Do not allow President Bush to play into the hands of Jiang like Clinton did. Always have a second guess when dealing with the Chinese government.
5) Finish the Afghan war with overwhelming power once and for all and get back to business as soon as possible.

Last but not least, to show my support to America’s cause.
