Palestine was a name made up by the Romans after they caused the diaspora. It was derived from Phillistine, a people the Israelites wiped out hundreds of years earlier. The romans called the lands of Judea, Samaria, etc., Palestine as an insult to Jews they committed genocide against.

Read Joseph Farah on WND, he knows the truth that PALs are afraid to admit.

You may also note that there was no country of Israel for a couple thousand years. Whatever you call it, those people.. those Palestinians.. who are fighting for their property, resources and culture have been in the area for about 5,000 years. Rest assured the Palestinians did not immigrate from Europe.

You will also note that the Jews left Palestine to go to Egypt when there was famine, but ultimately they couldn't get on with the Egyptians either. I have often wondered about that.

The Romans did not make up the name Palestine. The name is already mentioned by Herodotus in the 5th century B.C., hundreds of years before the Romans conquered that area, and it doesn't appear that Herodotus made up the name--it was already in use.

I don't know when the Philistines lose their separate identity but I am not aware of any passage in the Bible where the Israelites wipe them out. In Zephaniah 2.5 there is a reference to "Canaan, the land of the Philistines."

I think it's an irrelvant discussion; the only sure way to trace where contemporary Palestinians come from is gene analysis. I think I read recently they're closer to the Jews than any other living group, and many of them may well be remnant Jews who were forcibly converted to islam

But in any case, this is a mention of Palestine that predates the Roman conquest.
