Talk show host Tom Sullivan just reported that during a press conference Gov. Davis said he was notified that there is evidence that terrorists plan to target the Coronado Bridge (San Diego), the Golden Gate & Bay Bridges (San Francisco) and an LA Bridge (didn't catch the name) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2nd.

The Coronado bridge sees 65,000 cars per day and is a toll bridge when going across from San Diego to Coronado.

Is anyone seeing the images?

"U.S.S. New Orleans, wasn't that hit by a mine..."

Didn't hear about that. I'll look up and get back to you. BTW, brown or black shoe?

They don't. ALL the gators are at 32nd Street south of the bridge.

Only the carriers and a couple of MSC pre-position ships are at North Island.

Really? LPH's and LHA's used to dock at 32nd Street Naval Station. When did they start parking them at North Island?

They still dock at 32d Street. Only CVNs tie up at North Island. I see one or two every time I fly into Lindbergh Field.

Parts of San Pedro are still not the best places to be due to the presence of gangs (Hispanic). But all of it is much better than, say 10 years ago, or than East L.A. or South Central. There are also some very nice parts of San Pedro, up higher on the hill (Palos Verdes). I for example live in an apartment with a gorgeous view of a canyon, the ocean, and Catalina Island. I'm an engineer and reasonably well paid, but I can't afford to purchase a home where I live.

Well, it has five lanes of traffic, all more or less full at rush-hour. It's span (between the two towers, and the most vulnerable section is 4200 feet in length. Say a car in rush hour takes up 30 feet or so, that makes say (4200/30) * 5 = 700 cars at a time on the span. Maybe 1000 people total, considering it is rush hour and many commute alone. Now the Bay Bridge is a different story. It has 2 decks of 5 lanes, all of which are absolutely jammed. That would be a lot worse...

Maybe they'll emulate the raghead terrorists from True Lies and go after the bridges to the Florida Keys. I know it's the wrong coast, but haven't they pretty much focused on the east coast so far?

The Keys Bridges are of limited economic value, and they'd only get a section or two. Floridians would have it repaired in 60 days or under.

"Why? It's unhealthy to cough with your head turned. Same goes for sneezing."

It's usually the polite thing to do. Saw your retraction after I did the yelling in bold thing...sorry 'bout that.

--question to anyone---all the talk so far is important high profile traffic bridges. Are there in california any bridges much less important as a traffic bridge, but may be doing double duty as a hydrodam, or perhaps railroad bridges? How about an obscure bridge someplace that has an important water supply pipe incorporated into it? Off the wall bridges like that, not famous, but critically important nonetheless.

I always keep coming back to "unexpected" and "force multiplier" as potential targets.

I'm getting tired of being "on alert." :-) I think I'm going to kick it down a couple of notches to "watchful."

I think this is going to be a long, long haul. Since I made a vow to myself that I would wear something to demonstrate my patriotism EVERY DAY until this is over, This afternoon I purchased a crystal "I LOVE (heart) THE USA" pin and a red, white, and blue Sawarski crystal "Christmas Tree" pin to alternate with my 4 flag pins. I'm looking for a terrific eagle to further enhance my attire. I'm still alert and feeding the economy! LOL

You're thinking of the Antelope Valley Freeway bridge. Here's what it looked like after the Northridge quake:

Sorry about that...in a rush, I've mixed them up as I have since birth (so it seems). My point was accurate in that LPH's & carriers don't need to cross under the bridge to exit or enter San Diego bay on the way to and from the Pacific.

There have been, though, numerous vessels on the north side. I'm not in that area of San Diego--I'm north of Miramar--and won't have reason to be downtown for almost two weeks for a stint with jury duty. I'm not in a position to offer details beyond what I've tried to state.

Can't really say that I did. I'll take a look the next time I fly out of Lindbergh and let you know. For all I know, it's out on a float.

My white cap would have mostly said, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf, Sea of Japan, Pacific Ocean, etc.
