If the race is within the margin of error, then this should be enough to tip the scales.

The state GOP can publicize this all they want and it has much the same effect as a Bush visit.

In fact, some may respect the style of Bush (the low-key leadership) and transfer those qualities in their minds to Earley (maybe Earley will be the same kind of Governor as Bush is President, they might think).

The race is most assuredly within the margin of error. Eight recent polls have now shown a statistical tie (still slight edge to Warner), with only the ComPost sitting alone by itself giving Warner a huge lead.

Two things now that are not represented in these polls. Any effect from President Bush's endorsement, and any effect from the NRA's endorsement (letter started arriving this weekend, too late for the latest WJLA poll showing 50-46 Warner lead).

Normally, I'd agree. The only reason I'd prefer a television or radio commercial is Earley's Dem opponent has spent millions of his own money saturating the television since March. I'm not sure a letter cuts through all that to get anyone's attention. Please see the FR Virginia Page for news and information.
