Several years ago, I was looking around at law enforcement jobs, and some of them required the applicant to sign a statement that they would not smoke, on- OR off-duty.

And it is not just in law enforcement or firefighting. In Orange County Florida (Orlando area) the State's Attorney's office will not hire smokers and employees were given something like six months to quit smoking or face losing their jobs.
