Interesting because Andrea Mitchell was just saying (about 4:05 PDT On CNBC) that as late as 5 PM Washington time that her contacts at the CIA , Defense Dept etc, were saying that there are no links yet established to Iraq.

And it was also being said on CNBC that the anthrax could very well have been made in the US.

Mitchell repeated that on the 6:30 NBC network news, too. No mention was made of the coating at all. Brian Ross was reporting the info about the coating yesterday on a report I heard on the radio. He said the US stopped making the anthrax with the coating in the 70's and that we've long since destroyed all the stores.

The confustion arises in part because while the strain of the anthrax is the Ames strain, first isolated in the US, the processing seems to indicate a state sponsor, probably Iraq. Information was posted last week sometime indicating that the Iraqi's had ordered a sample of the Ames strain from a commerical lab in the US back before the Gulf War. It could be that the used that strain for the "deniable" terrorist applications, but their own home grown and much nastier, that is antibiotic resistant, strain for their own military bioweapons. They would have applied the same processing to each batch after it had been grown.
