The Censored Republic
Free Republic | Jim Robinson

Ok, this is a free for all thread. Come in and take your best shots. I promise I won't delete it or get upset. Get it out of your systems and then we will see if we can solve the problems. There always several sides to any story and several possible solutions to any problem. I'd like to hear them all and I'd like to solve as many problems as we can and get this forum kicking socialist butt again instead of kicking each other. So, please anyone with a complaint or a problem or a possible solution, (moderators, posters, FAB, everyone) please chime in. Thanks, Jim

I don't know why that specific thread was pulled. Could've been a duplicate? I don't know. We were pulling a lot of duplicates until lately. We've recently decided that if a duplicate is not real recent, we'll probably just let it stay up. Getting way too many complaints about threads being deleted. Also, we sometimes pull threads if flame wars get out of control. Sometimes it's a lot more difficult and time consuming to delete individual replies in a raging war than it is just to end it by pulling the entire thread. Also, pulling individual replies does not always end the war.

I have no problem with this. You might want to check your browser settings.

Thanks for this awesome site, Jim. I love this place. I'd like to 2nd Bommer's suggestion of a spell check. Also, is it possible to do a search of a particular poster? If that option is available, can you tell me how to do it. There are several members of this site whose input I enjoy reading.

Kudos JR for the thread.

I think you know everyone has nothing but admiration for you.

If I could add my voice to those who would like some kind of notice or explaination regarding banned people or threads; that would be great.

Overall, you and the boy-wonder John have much to be proud of. -IB

Through the years this site has continued to improve and I think it shows by the ever expanding membership.

Many want to be informed as to why certain threads and/or people were removed and/or banned. I, for one think if this is done, it will degenerate into the old flame wars of yore - I sure don't want to go through that peiod again.

I vote for keeping things the way they are.

No kiss up mode. Just find it interesting that the first few posts were total lovefest when I think he really wanted input.

There is nothing worse than

Breaking News

FOX is reporting blah, blah, blah.....

More to follow....

There is no information and mostly it is rumor or conjecture.

I believe the "realtime" article published by a local Freeper that was on the scene in Phoenix, was extremely valuable. The only reason I can see for banning him, would be prior information that he was an untruthful character. He did not disrupt an operation in progress, it was over. Your censors would have shutup Paul Revere. The public has a right to know what's going on in this country. I don't believe the FBI went around that airport telling people that they didn't see anything.

You've gone back up about a thousand notches in my mind for starting this thread. Thanks.

Perhaps a "Flame War" sandbox area is needed? When posters get out of control they get their privs restricted to the Flame War Sandbox for a set period of time. There they can get it out of their systems, and the rest of us don't have to take it seriously. Just a thought.

Jim, earlier today I spent some time on a great thread titled something like, "How Free Republic Looked in '96, '97, '98". Although FR has always been cutting-edge... You've come a long way, baby!

I appreciate FR and all the work it has takes to maintain it. Keep up the good work!

Took me a while, but I now have one complaint and one question.

Vanities. How about limiting FReepers to one vanity per month?

"homophobic",

PUH-LEEZ!! How do you define that loaded term? Can't I think that faggots are faggots without being labelled as a faggot-phobic?

I agree. We are smart people.....we are Freepers, for heaven's sakes. I think Freepers are intelligent enough to judge the validity of an article.

I think the search feature doesn't go as far back in time as it used to. I liked the deeper search as well as the feature that articles posted stayed longer than replies.

If I may, in 25 words or less: The primary problem is a failure to distinguish between the principles of Chthonian nature and the Apollinian world view. The current construction of Free Republic is a dynamic equilibrium of ordered chaos. Does that answer the question you asked? Best regards

I'd like to 2nd Bommer's suggestion of a spell check.

If that were to happen, we'd lose entertaining threads such as this.
