I knew Iranians in pilot training, at an Air Force base in Texas, in the 70s. You are right, they were all quite nice guys, but most were very much anti American. Weird huh? You are right, they did not seem to associate much with the Arab student pilots, but kept pretty much to themselves. They loved chasing the Mexican women there, however.

The Persians seem like they're really decent enough people deep down. Even when they had those hostages, they didn't kill them and seem like they're a bit undecided---that they almost like Americans. They submitted to the Arab's religion back when the Arabs came into Persia and took over and forced them to convert, but they don't really like or admire the Arabs. They'll even tell you they really had a better culture than Arabs ever did. Maybe it's because they know what happens to Muslims who change to another religion ---but I wonder if deep down they wish they'd kept their previous religion or could choose something else.
