Bush should declare a National State of Emergency to establish the appropriate context and mindset we need to round up Saddam's operatives. We won't get any of these things until it is too late, I'm afraid. Or maybe we'll just give Saddam a pass, and hope that he leaves us alone from now on.

The business-as-usual attitude is coming back strong. Too many people are beginning to think of the WTC/pentagon massacres as "yesterday's news". It's not yesterday. It's today, tomorrow and every day until we band together, kick the scumbags out of the USA and kick the butts of the scumbags overseas.

I expect there to be no further large-scale attacks. We are in the deterrent phase of the campaign. The last thing Saddam wants is for us to take drastic action that might be successful at neutralizing his sleepers, which are his equivalent of a nuclear deterrent. So, project ahead a few weeks or months. If no attacks occur, and all these alerts turn into false alarms, then the prospects of our mobilizing the appropriate domestic response to pick up the sleepers gets worse. True, we will build up stocks of antibiotics but (a) the sleepers could easily have stocks of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in their kitchen arsenal and (b) if they disperse enough anthrax, they can always overwhelm any healthcare delivery system. So, I think what we're looking at is a slowly-dawning awareness of a new power balance, where we have the power to take out Saddam any time we want, using nuclear weapons, but he also has the capability to deliver, if not total destruction, at least "unacceptable losses," in retaliation. That stalemate may last for some time.
