So targeting the so called "homegrown hate groups" is acceptable? I don't think so. I think the FBI is trying to justify a massive attack on our liberty. They just can't be trusted.
I wouldn't take this too seriously. They are just spreading chaffe, so they don't have to point the finger at Iraq right now. Do you seriously believe, BTW, that a month into this crisis, after we've had anthrax samples for at least a couple of weeks, we've traced down where it was sent from, and yet the authorities still haven't made a determination if it is homegrown or from the 9/11 terrorists? That is prima facie absurd.
NO. The situation is straightforward. Saddam Hussein is now in a position where, by simply by sending a message to his US-based operatives over the Internet, he can inflict US civilian casualties on a scale comparable to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The anthrax letters communicated that threat. Now the government has to figure out whether to point the finger at Iraq, which means acting against Iraq and probably taking those casualties, or whether it is wiser simply to drop the whole subject and just keep pounding at the Taliban. Saddam wants us to keep pounding the Taliban, BTW. He couldn't care less about Afghanistan -- to come out on top in this, he has to get Pakistan and Saudi, and our bombing of the Taliban fits right into that game plan.
