Arab Nations Defend Islam's Image

MANAMA, Bahrain -- Six Persian Gulf nations agreed Wednesday to launch a media campaign to combat the spasm of anti-Arab sentiment that has followed the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

The oil-rich group proposed setting up an English-language satellite television channel promoting a better image of Islam and Arabs to viewers in the West.

"We are putting our efforts together as ministers to reach all media in the Western world to explain our position that all Muslims and all Arabs are against terrorism," Bahraini Information Minister Nabil al-Hamer said after chairing a closed-door meeting of information ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Some Muslims complain they have been the victims of a backlash in the West since the Sept. 11 suicide jet attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The hijackers identified by authorities are all Arabs, and the United States blames Osama bin Laden of masterminding the assault through a global terrorist network that recruits Islamic militants to attack U.S. targets around the world.

Violence since Sept. 11 has been blamed for hundreds of reported attacks in the United States on Muslims and Arab-Americans.

Hamad Ali al-Sulayti, assistant secretary-general of political affairs for the Gulf Cooperation Council, accused Western media of connecting Islam with terrorism.

The Gulf Cooperation Council is a loose political and economic alliance of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

Abdulrahman al-Attiyah, Qatar's undersecretary for foreign affairs, praised his country's Al-Jazeera satellite television station, which has emerged as a key opinion maker because of its independent editorial policy -- a rarity in the region.

It also has become known for airing taped statements by bin Laden, and by the spokesman for bin Laden's organization, al-Qaida.

If they make the issuing of jihads and fatwas a criminal offense punishable by execution, then they will have done something positive. Actions speak louder than words.

trying to get through life as honorably as possible

LAF. Honorably? You're kidding right.

Honor to a muslim is obeying the Koran and slaying the infidel.

"We have prepared for the Infidel, whips and chains and BLAZING FIRES!" Koran 76:4

"Kill the unbeliever, and plunder his wealth!"

And this is the bottom line. They've been killing and plundering for 1400 years. And I see no reason to believe that will change. They've figured out how to make killing pay and not only do they get the plunder, they get into heaven to boot, with 72 female virgins and the virility of 100 men. Why not 72? Because they're also promised 28 ever fresh "young" boys to do as they wish with.

Did you ask any of those muslim people what would happen to them if they converted to Christianity? That's apostacy and punishable by the most brutal death that can be imagined.

There's NOTHING Tolerant or Honorable about Islam, except to other Islamics

You need to keep something very firmly in mind. Bin laden and his terrorists aren't "misinterpreting" the koran. The rest of Islam is. The mercenaries are interpreting it EXACTLY as it reads.

Maybe they should hire Harry Bloodworth-Thomason.

They could make a short movie clip about Muslim men:

"The Men from Hope....errr..we mean Hell."

TEXT - - - Soft music in background.......

"When Saheem Ali Ghada Muhammad Micali Gazeem Couscos Pita Falaffel Tahenni Karem Rection Zahia wanted a 9 year old bride..he knew just where to look. He found little Jazeem and fell instantly in lust. She only cost 2 camels--and they had already cut off her clitoris too!"

Ahhhh--Islam--the religion of PEACE!

Ultimately, religious institutions will behave in a civilized manner when deprived of the political power to carry out their uncivilized impulses.

To bad that doesn't answer the mail for uncivilized murderous atheist institutions.

This is a good sign. They are starting to get the message that we don't like them.

You are confusing the fact that a few people's beliefs (the Muslim friends you have known) do not have any bearing on the official teachings of Islam don't It doesn't matter whether your friends claimed to be Muslims. What you need to look at are the official teachings, and they are pretty horrid. I know plenty of cultural "Catholics" and others who feel comfortable saying they are of a particular belief. But they do not practice it nor do they believe in what the official church teachings are. There are always renegades. What you are seeing is that in Islam, an evil religion, the renegades are apparently the good guys. What you need to look at are the OFFICIAL teachings and as America's Resolve and others have stated rather well, this is a religion straight from the PIT OF HELL. I tried to tell people about this stuff a long time ago and nobody cared. Now everyone cares.

Christianity wasn't pretty when the Inquisition got a hold of it.

The Inquisition was not Christianity. Christians and Jews were the victims of the Inquisition. It was a certain religion that did that, and it will remain un named.

I'm a white, American, Christian male living in the hills of Virginia defending Islam.

I would be interested to know what your definition of "Christian" is. Islam was spawned by Satan, in my opinion, to persecute Christians. A Christian defender of Islam is an oxymoron. It can't be done, or at least not Biblically.

You say Islam is evil. I know it's not.

You are entitled to your opinion. I just will never agree with it. Have a nice forever.

If you stood on a street corner in NYC and preached Islam, your'd be dead in a week, also.

In the current climate you may well be right. Then again, I may be dead of a mugger. Then again, out of the 2-5 million muslims in this country, you can count on one or two hands the number of incidents aimed at them because of their religion.

Saudi has NO christian churches. They're forbidden by law.

There's no religious freedom there.

You keep trying to make this a "Christians are evil too". It's nothing of the kind. Compared to Islam, the history of Christianity is sterling and pure. You'll have to show me in the historical record where Christianity was responsible for 3.5 million deaths in a single year.

The Crusades were a reaction to the sacking of constantinople. A MAN, the pope commanded the Monarchs of Europe to embark on that crusade. ALLAH has commanded Islam to make their crusade or Jihad.

You never answered my questions though. Have you read the Koran? Or lived under Islam?

I haven't lived under Islam, nor would I. I've read the Koran and Islamic History however and they're enough to make a billy goat puke up its guts.

I'm glad you read the article I linked to, very sad. Yuo are right about the west having its own problems, but at least we are free to discuss them and free to try and make changes. One gets the impression this is not the case in most Islamic countries. As for the Shah - they elected him.

Good one. I have too. You could not have distinguished me from Hogwaller 6 weeks ago. Even the first couple of weeks after WTC. But I DO believe my lyin' eyes, rather that what I'm told. Actually, the apologetics for Islam since the atrocity are, if anything, as damning as the actual "bombings."

Improving the image of Arab/Muslim countries is one tough PR job. They ought to start with something easier--like convincing NYPD and FDNY guys that Hillary feels their pain.
