I'm reading a new book on Nixon and it's funny how 30 years ago, Republicans were for "law and order" and "respect" and the left-wingers were booing and hissing and causing commotion. The more things change . . . And you honestly don't think that is because the establishment/anti-establishment roles have totally reversed in the past 30 years?? In a world where "law and order" means socialism, right-wingers have no choice but to assume the outsider, counter-culture role once occupied by the left.

I did notice. I'm just pointing that out. It was merely a coincidence that I'm at the part in the book on Nixon's presidency where the President rails at the people who boo him.
I just found it interesting. But, as someone who has booed politicians, I can't speak for everyone. It's just that in one sense, I agree with watsonfella -- I do think the media can play this against conservatives, big time.

I have thought this for a long time - Independents and new Republicans are the sixties counter culture. This came through when so many people demonstrated against Jesse Jackson, et al, in Florida and supported the Elian Gonzalez family against the government! These were the actions of the old Left - as Pat Caddell (sp) said, the Democratic Party was hijacked by criminals and thugs...hence, two of their miserable leaders were booed quite loudly last week.
