Just caught up with this thread after five FR-devoid days. I do happen to have a pocket-size camera (APS film) that I bought this past summer at a clearance discount. Henceforth, I'll carry it with me more often, MHG, hoping, of course, that I'll never have to use it for anything other than serendipitously benign pictures.

Lots to read up in this thread... thanks. BTW just wonderin' out loud here,
not being up on cameras - can you or anyone suggest an affordable "point & shoot"
type set up that would suit our purpose? I figure you'd need some telephoto-ability
to bring the subjects in a bit. The "other" "point & shoot" minimum would be a 9mm
(to drop the subject)?

If you get a clear picture from a distance, photo enhancement can reach out and ID details.

Twixt you and me and the cat, I've taken to forgetfully hauling my M1 Carbine around in the vehicle, with a loaded two clips in another portion of the vehicle such that it takes at least three steps to arm and fire ... I'm always comin' or goin' to the range to shoot don'tcha know!

Costco is now selling a pretty nifty night vision monocular for just $149.00. No Freeper should be without one. Never can tell what's going on in the dark these days.

Something for all freepers to consider:

If you use a "red dot" sight on your rifle, mounted fairly far forward, you can mount any small cheap night vision monocular behind it in tandem. The night sight does not even need a reticle. You will be able to see the red dot of the red dot glowing green in the night sight.

You can put the entire "system" together for $250-600+ dependig on the quality of componants chosen. But the point is, your rifle will be able to make those long accurate shots in the dark without costing you a fortune.

Just pull the night vision monocular off during the day, the red dot sight doesn't care.

Is this method worth a bang_list vanity post?

That's still okay, if they don't want to do anything about the terrorists living among us, it may be up to us to take care of the situation eventually.

Think of it as intelligence information.

"Are you a US Citizen?" can be followed up easily. If "yes", then ask "where are you form, and when did you come to America?" If they get huffy, so what? This is a WAR! The "Attas" are using our niceness to kill us. If they say "no", then ask what kind of visa they are on, and when it expires. Just use a nice and friendly tone of voice. If they get huffy, ask them why, since we are at war and the enemy who killed 5000 Americans were on expired visas.

Travis, I manage an apartment complex.

After 9/11 I called our main office and got permission to add to our rental application
"Are you a U.S. citizen?
If not, what country are you from?
When does your visa expire?
You must make a copy of visas for all people to occupy the apartment and submit them with your application."

I am trying to convince our other apartment managers that they should also add these questions to their applications.

Go to Walmart and get Fugi disposable camera with 800 speed film. It's cheap and takes excellent shots in low light conditions. If you can only find the flash model - tape over the flash. Taking pictures in public isn't against any law - do not be intimidated to believe otherwise. License numbers are valuable and photograph well. Digital cameras are great and fast to download but not as well for moving subjects in low-light without flash. Kodak also makes 800 disposable. 800 speed is the only way to go . . . .
