IF WE HAD KEPT ALL 18 hijackers out of the US it would not have helped a bit.

There are lots of places in the world to buy training on flying airliners. They didn't have to use the USA. They did it becuase it cost less. If they could not have entered the USA they would have just hijacked Canadian planes leaving on international flights. They could have taken down the WTC with out ever entering the USA before hand.

Fools think the solution is preventing terrorists from having oportuinity. It cannot be done in a free society. The only security is when the terrorists are absolutely certain that an attack will result in the total destruction of their cause.

I agree completely. Having said that, are we doing what we can to keep out terrorists? I think the comment in the article about Darwininsm in action was telling. Why shouldn't we keep out the bumbling, stupid terrorists if we can? This is like the missle defense argument: Well, since our enemies can always use another method to deliver the bombs, why should be bother with an ABM system? I think the answer there is the same here: We build it not because it is foolproof or perfect, but it defends us from a real threat.

To make airport inspectors Federal employees as are the imigration and customs slugs is laughable. The drones that defend our borders (for the most part) just want to put in their eight hours and go home. Federalizing retired military,(they're still on the payroll), with added pay would help this situation,IMHO
