How is saying that Irenaeus and Polycarp were contemporaries of John, meaning they were alive at about the same time John was, an insult to John? Do you have a different definition of "contemporary"?

He must not be taking "contemporary" literally. ;-)

I think he just wants us to recognize that the prophetic text used for the Virgin Birth is on shaky ground linguistically.

So do you think Matthew's use of the "virgin birth" is on shaky ground linuistically?
