I believe in the authority of the church as long as it lines up with scripture. Eating meat on Fri. is no where in the bible. In fact Jesus taught that fasting was a free choice thing and should be done with no show, quietly, secertly so as not to draw attention to the act.

Yes, but Jesus knew their sin was the love of food, and had to say this to him to show them their sin. It isn't really meant to apply to modern Christians.
