The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

I believe God want's us to be humble enough to know we need his help in EVERYTHING.

"discuss the usefulness of prayer and whether God can be swayed by our pleading."

Petitionary prayer I believe it is called. I'd offer this to be considered: when asked to "teach us to pray," Jesus included a few petitions…

Contrast with C.S. Lewis who said he prayed not because it changed God, but because it changed him (Lewis).

Also, consider: if we are changed, is God's will more completely resultant in our life?

So, in less than 40 years of existence, the Cowboys managed to win 5 championships. It took GB 10 years to win one. How many did the Pack win in 40?

In their first 40 years of existence, the Packers won thirteen championships.

How long do you think it will be before Dallas wins another one?

(Did you know that in Pittsburgh, "pirates" is pronounced as a one syllable word?)

How?

LOL, I'll be sure to tell Big Mack that. But there is somewhere in the bible that says the people of the world (that is unsaved people:) are smarter then God;s people and God's people should take some lessons. Now I might have this wrong, can't find the verse I'm thinking of to check:)

That would put johnson to start game 5 ...

If Johnson starts and is the winning pitcher of record in Game 5, I'll sing at your church.

No more baseball bets. Basiles still owes me a trip to the church service of my choice and hasn't paid up.

The first game with a paid player was determined by the NFL to be a game between teams from Jeannette and Latrobe. (The history is disputed by some other folks, but we ain't listening.)

My source says that the first person to be paid to play football was former Yale All-American guard William (Pudge) Heffelfinger, who was paid $500 to play for the Allegany Athletic Association club against their rival the Pittsburgh Athletic Club, November 12th, 1892. The AAA won the game 4-0 when Heffelfinger picked up a PAC fumble and ran 25 yards for a touchdown. In 1895, John Brallier became the first football player to openly turn pro, accepting $10 and expenses to play for the Latrobe YMCA against the Jeannette Athletic Club.

Latrobe is the world-famous home of Arnold Palmer and Rolling Rock beer.

I have fond memories of Rolling Rock...

I was sincerely curious ... not trying to mouth off. I knew it was a lot more than Dallas has.

How long do you think it will be before Dallas wins another one?

At this rate ... a very, very long time. ;o)

It was going on about Sunday around 4:00

So, they weren't doing their part to keep the Sabbath holy, were they?

(Which reminds me: Why are they called the Arizona Diamondbacks instead of the Phoenix Diamondbacks?)

For the same reason we have the "Colorado Rockies" and the "Florida Marlins". Some marketing genius thought that you'd sell more tickets and merchandise if you named the team after the state than after the city.

(Those who never noticed, watch the game tonight. When the Steelers move left to right you see a logo. Right to left, no logo.)

Never noticed that before! I'll watch for it tonight.

And as for The Rocket, he will pitch brilliantly.

Don't you mean "blatantly" ... at the batter's head?

Hey I head that. I think Wisconsin Packers has a nice ring to it.

I'm the one with the logic.

1 Cor. 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
