The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Serious question: Is it your intention that by bringing down others you can elevate yourself? Why spend so much effort to try to make others feel less? If you will look closely at it, it harms you too. Why do something that harms yourself? Are you always joking when you say these things?

Is it your intention to always talk down to people and psyco analize people? It makes them feel small.

Is it your intention to elevate yourself and pretend that your so much more brilliant than everyone else. That makes others feel less and harms you at the same time. I usually try and ignore your self-righteous posts. Sorry I failed this time.

She does seem to draw to your intelligent posts above all others though.

You did call this one early on. I'm still deciphering. No, that's dishonest. I'm not.

I've been to a few AOG churches, the large ones don't seem to be much different than my own home-church's services. But the smaller ones are different, speaking in tongues, and others telling what it means. Pretty wild stuff for the uninitiated. But I grew up in Pentecostal churches, my grandpa on my Dad's side was a fire-and-brimestone type of preacher and Pastor for over 50 years in Pentecostal churches in Oklahoma, Kansas and California (where I was born).

Til the day I die.

Me too, Sunday night and Monday were tough, but I'm starting to recover. It doesn't help when they didn't play as well as they could have, but that's how it goes sometimes.

Who's the current Blue Pope?

Our current pope is Thomas Trask. Good fellow, good leader and good vision. If I you want me to try to suggest a good church in your area, I could try to locate one. Our churches range from TBN charismatic style to Willow-Creek "seeker sensitive" to a borderline Methodist style service. You might want to try to locate something that you'd at least be able to stomach.

Shouldn't the least of our spiritual life be to avoid causing harm? That's not too psychoanalytical is it?

"I guess that lent thing really hit a nerve eh? You must be giving up ice cream this year.

Hitting a nerve is your intention. You really do try to hurt others a lot and often. Do you believe you can try to harm someone without harming yourself. That's another serious question.

Why not try the opposite and see what happens?

Heck, it's still tough. All growing up, the mantra for my father and I on the last play of each Rams game each season was "Well, maybe next year..." and even at their best in the 80s, I never let myself believe they could actually win the Super Bowl...But these new Rams have spoiled me the past 3 years, to where I am actually disappointed in a season where they lose a Super Bowl. LOSE a Super Bowl! Geez, I would have done cartwheels before if the Rams simply got to the NFC title game, win or lose. This beggar fan has become a chooser.

Well, you know me better than any other AOG I know. (You're the only one on that list, no offense.)

I would value your recommendation. I live in a pretty small townof about 75,000 but it's in the Baptist Belt, NC area. Maybe there's one you might recommend? Or give me the code words, secret signs to look for when I check the listings?

Yep, we got spoiled quick, didn't we? 30 years and one Super Bowl (a loss, but it was close) and now 2 out of 3 years they are in. The Super Bowl loss was harder to take than last year's much worse season, what does that say about human nature?

Good grief, there's over a dozen listed: AOG First; Bascom AOG, Bascom AOG; Calvary AOG; Christian Life Assembly; Cornerstone Church AOG; First aog,; Grace Chapel AOG; Lighthouse AOG; New Life Fellowship; Park Heights AOG; Primera… (español); and Victory AOG.

Any of those names mean anything to you?

Yes for the 1st one. No for the 2nd.

Should I be lying on the couch? You don't charge for these sessions? Do Ya?

Why not try the opposite and see what happens?

Sheesh and I always thought opposites attract.

I am confused between what Jesus taught and what you derive from it.

God says the child of God cannot measure up to His standard at all. It is beyond human ability and effort. The Holy Spirit was not given in the Old Testament to enable them to realize the ideal that was expressed in the Law. Today it is expressed by the Holy Spirit indwelling the believer. Paul could say in Romans 7:18, “… To will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I find not.” In other words, Paul is saying, “I have a new nature and I want to please Him, I want to love God with all my heart, my soul, my mind, but I fail. I want to love others, but I don’t. The will is present with me, but how to perform it, I find not.” Then that man who was so defeated in chapter 7 of Romans says in chapter 8 that what he couldn’t do through the flesh, the Holy Spirit has now been able to do. And you’ll find him writing to the Philippians at the end of his life, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengtheneth me” (4:13). So today God has given a power to believers that enables them to realize this ideal.
