October 15, 2001 -- JERUSALEM - Israeli snipers yesterday blew away the hunted Hamas militant accused of masterminding a deadly disco bombing - as Prime Minister Ariel Sharon promised more targeted killings and Palestinians reacted with outrage.

Abed Rahman Hamad, who allegedly dispatched the suicide bomber who killed 22 people outside a Tel Aviv dance club in June, was shot twice after predawn prayers while standing on his roof in Qalqilya, a West Bank town on the Israeli border.

PM Sharon is another leader in a difficult time that will be shown by history to have had the vision to do what was needed in times of "political correctness" that almost brought down the western civilization. President Bush is in this same position.

That does sound impressive, but for an Army soldier, is it really good? I just don't know enough about target shooting to evaluate.

Wanted Nablus Hamas activist killed in apparent assassination
By Amos Harel, Military Correspondent, and Reuters

Palestinians accused Israel of killing an Islamic militant on Monday despite U.S. and British pressure to end a year-long conflict threatening regional support for the Washington-led war on terrorism.

It was unclear how Ahmed Marshoud, a member of the Hamas
group who is wanted by Israel, was killed. Some Palestinians said he was killed in a helicopter missile strike, while others said a booby-trapped car exploded as he walked past. The Israeli army declined comment.

The killing occurred a day after Israel renewed an
internationally condemned track-and-kill policy to shoot dead an Islamic militant it said was behind a suicide bombing at a Tel Aviv disco in June. It says the policy thwarts militants planning attacks on Israelis.

To put a 1200 yard shot in perspective, a man's torso that far away would be completely hidden by the narrowest front sight of any rifle. This shot would have to be made with a high quality rifle, very powerful scope, carefully zeroed, and with expert rifle, body, hand and breath control.

Maybe a machine gun, or several snipers shooting simultaneously? A single bullet from a single sniper at that distance would be too likely to miss.

Personally, I don't care if he's a great shot or if it was a one in a million fluke. I'm just glad he killed the bastard.

"This is not the first and not the last," he said. "We made our stance clear regarding this issue and our stance is clear and that is how we will act."

Its crytal clear to me. Otherwise known as self preservation or defense.

These shots have become more common with a laser range finder to take the guess work out. The better rifles and scopes and bullets 1200 yds is really not that impossible any more. We have people in this country that shoot game pass 2000 yds.

The right rifle the right scope dead meat. When you have the governments ammo to train with you can shoot a lot and get real good.

OK...so what is this I just heard on Fox morning show that on the first day of the bombing our army had the Mullah in sites and a JAG nixed the killing? Heard Donald Rumsfeld was kicking over chairs and breaking doors...

.....1200 yds is really not that impossible any more.

That's good to know. My mind has this image of some Mullah sticking his head out of a cave, and from a hilltop far, far away a man whispers, "Gotcha!"

[..1200 yd. shot] The .50 Barret would do it nicely, also there is a 20mm. single shot out there.[Saw it in SOF can't remember who makes it.]

"We have people in this country that shoot game pass 2000 yds."

What kind of idot shoots game at 2000 yards?

The purpose of hunting is to kill the animal as quickly as possible, preferably instantly. For game the size of deer (man sized/weight) the acceptable striking force is 1000 foot pounds (thats why many states prohibit the .22 centerfires for deer). Nothing, apart from maybe a .50 bmg carries that much energy that far. Additionally it is ludicrous to think that you could even hold well enough to hit something at that distance in field conditions, not even considering wind deflection (6-12 FEET with a 5-10 mph wind).

Hell the world record BENCHREST group is over 5 inches at 1000 yards, and thats with a 60 pound rifle.

Anyone who claims to have shot game at this distance either hasn't the faintest idea how to gauge distance or is feeding you a line of B**S***. Either way keep him the hell away from me, I don't play well with immoral idiots.
