What are the legal requirements for treason?

Now that's the best question I've heard all day....if I say what I think should be done to traitors I'll be banned.

My point is this: Cracking down on illegal aliens is already doable---but the laws on apprehending US citizens of Arab/Middle Eastern descent in peace time make it more difficult to close the noose around those in our midst who are sending these anthrax letters (I am assuming some are citizens or at least legal immigrants).
