Just some anecdotal evidence, I saw a guy buying a rifle at Wal-Mart on Sept.11. Fortunately I already have a decent gun collection so I didn't have the need to buy more after Sept.11. I just bought my Winchester 30-06 in late August. It's nice to be ahead of the curve. :)

Don't forget ammo, cleaning supplies, and replacement parts like springs. Oh, and there is always magazines.
