About ten years ago, while living in England, I met a former academic advisor to Margaret Thatcher (from the 70's). We were discussing the war in Bosnia and he had the following to say about Islam:
"Islam is an outrage to humanity. It is anti-civilisation."
Initially I was in disbelief when I heard his view. Over the years, however, I have come to respect this considered opinion more and more.
Your heritage was not the correct one for you to hear what high caste Englishmen, or even most high caste Europeans think of Americans. Rest assured it is as prejudiced and unflattering. Even the Irish are often not good enough.
