Then again, my cat is so happy with his life here, keeping the yard safe from small mammals. Since his hunting is his true nature, would he be happy where "the cat lies down with the chipmunk"?

In Heaven we will have this special bond, this special union of souls with everybody.

Agreed.

In a place of perfect love how could we love "our" family more than we love anyone else?

Don't Catholics believe that there are varying levels of reward in Heaven? God loves all of us, but some will be rewarded more highly than others. Similarly, we will love everyone, but there will still be a special, unique relationship with our spouses and children.

Our cats are cowards. A few weeks ago, all three of them got out at night through an unlocked patio screen door (one of them managed to paw it open enough for them to slip through). I had to go out looking for them with a flashlight, and found all of them cowering in the pumpkin patch in the garden.

Perhaps the cats will enjoy chasing virtual mice in the heavenly holodeck. ;o)
