USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

I heard about what great food you prepare and will help with anything I can. You just tell me what you need and it is done.

This is my first day. Snow Bunny helped me get registered late last night. I finally gave in after telling her I would rather do a high fall or go through a window then sit and type at a computer. ha ha ha

Ya gotta let her win sometimes, I like the smile I get and twinkle in her eyes when I say.
" well ok".

Nice to meet you on my first day.

So nice to meet you FallGuy. Your Bunny is so sweet and I just love the tribute you gave her on your homepage.

I thought about you the other night. I was watching Elvis's first movie, Love Me Tender, and was looking to see if you were in it. Then I realized it was made way before you became an actor. I do look forward to some of your Elvis stories, though.

Speaking of Elvis, I hope the Program Director here at the USO schedules some Elvis movies. These younger dudes and dudettes need to be introduced to Elvis; some of them probably don't even know who he is! Well, he made at least two movies a year for many years, so there must be plenty of videos of him around.

Elvis served in the Army. He was a tank driver and was stationed in Germany. That is where he met Pricilla, she was the daughter of an officer stationed there.

Elvis loved this country .

Thanks for the nice comments daisyscarlett. Yes, Elvis films are fun and much different than todays films for teenagers.

Do you two know Wayne Newton? He has just been appointed the head of Celebrity Circle for the U.S.O. I guess his job is to coordinate celebrity entertainment for the troops. He should certainly get in touch with SnowBunny-he could learn a lot from her.

Snow Bunny is on the list to be called up to go with them if they need her. She thinks they will take the younger people and the celebrities that are popular right now first. They may have her go , but we sort of doubt it.

I think Wayne Newton will do a good job. He is no Bob Hope but having Newton is so much better then some actor or entertainter that has spoken out against Bush. Newton as far as I know might even be a Republican, not sure.

We only met Wayne Newton once, when I took Snow Bunny over to his office where he is lining up the acts for the USO show. He was very nice to both of us.

One of our favorite movies Wayne Newton is in is called " Las Vegas Vacation" , Newton is hilarious in it.

"He tested planes , choppers, jeeps etc. under 80 degrees below zero in a 300 x 300 hanger."

Sheesh...I had to survive 3 1/2 years in Fairbanks, Alaska, enduring weeks when it was no warmer than 40 below zero, hanging around 50 below.

One day with the wind chill factor, it was 80 below, and my two sons walked to school and back home at the end of the day.
They, btw, went outdoors to the playground unless it was below 35 below, and could take their lunch ONLY if it were that cold.
On "warm" days above 35 below, they had to go home for lunch - no cafeterias.

FallGuy - this was January 1963 to June 1966. The FIRST thing we saw at Eielson AFB was a U-2 taking off!

Speaking of 'secret' things, there was a hangar on base even Security could not approach.
One day one broke the rule and chased someone into the gate - within 24 hours he and his family and all possessions were GONE - never heard from again.

Even though I am from Florida originally, we'd had a year in Rapid City, South Dakota before going to Alaska, and I reached the point where I actively longed for it to get up to - 50? 60?
NO! UP to ZERO!
Honestly thought of that as a Comfort Level where a heavy sweater (and long johns) would suffice.

At least at Eglin you could thaw out with ease!

I just read to him what you wrote . He and I both loved reading your post. Thank you so much.

He just said you are right. In Florida once he got outside it was warm.

Thanks again, really interesting.

Ok, I see what you mean. :^) I used her head from the one you're talking about on her profile page, but of course, it's not the full-blown, up-close-hubba-hubba-beautiful, in-color Bunny!

I am indexing this thread for the "USO Canteen" bump_list.

If you find a thread that may be of interest to readers of the "USO Canteen" (FReeper Style) threads, just post a reply to "USO Canteen," and THAT thread will be marked for retrieval, when the USO Canteen bump_list link is clicked.

(See also the OTHER interesting "bump_lists" on John Robinson's official "Free Republic Bump List Register.")
