I just received a call from my contact at Ron Paul's office.
Ron Paul today introduced two bills into the House of Representatives which would authorize the State Department to issue letters of Marque authorizing privateers to attack and collect assets from terrorists who commit hostile acts against the U.S.
This means that you (yes you personallywould be able to help to bring down the rogue and nationless enemies of the United States provided you meet a few requirements.
The precendence for this bill is based on specific Constitutional powers and was seen as a remedy by our founders for those nationaless terrorists who committed acts against U.S. merchant ships on the high seas. We're dealing with Pirates here and a significant effort has been made by Ron Paul's team to create a legal definition for "Air Piracy" which would include hijackings.
The text of the Bills have not been published yet but I will update everyone the moment the text becomes available.
The Bills are: H.R. 3074 and H.R. 3076
Please call your congressman and tell him that you want them to either sponsor or support this bill.
The books's plot is centered around a terrorist act that goes unpunished by a squishy ant-war president. The conservative Speaker of the House successfully passes a Letter of Remarque and Reprisal. Verrrrry interesting...
To gain support from constituents of future sponsors. To influence the populace (and therefore their representatives) at a time when a bill like this may get to a floor vote. To sink any Rat who votes against it.
We've not only scooped them on this story, but we've scooped them on the anthrax stories, some of the terrorist/Bin Laden associate stories, and other things happening lately as well, not to mention smoking out or revealing many anti-war protest activity. Good for FR, the best place to keep up with news on the planet!
Or: seems like the Americans aren't real happy when they find a Mexican in the process of bringing a handcuffed American back over Mexico.
Has George W. Bush (The President, remember) indicated that he favors this? or is it just an exercise in Ron Paul vanity?
Ron Paul is not grandstanding. He is our friend. Paul continually exposes the hypocrisy of both Republicans and Democrats and they hate him for it. There have been several instances where Paul was cutoff from asking tough questions because people know the answers would embarass them.
This happened recently when a House committee suddenly terminated a hearing with Colin Powell. Why? Because Paul's turn to ask questions was next. Immediately after the session ended, the congressman who was the last to ask questions turned to him and said: "I'll bet you had some really tough questions to ask."
It also happened recently in the well of the House, where the speaker ignored Paul's call for a recorded vote. The speaker had Paul's microphone turned off. Yet, Paul screamed as loud as he could to request a recorded vote. The parliamentarian finally realized what was happening and intervened - informing the speaker (a Republican!) that he was out-of-order. Paul got his recorded vote on the bill and Democrats and Republicans were fuming because it was the education bill that no one wanted to have their name attached to.
In other words, Paul cut through the B.S. and shenanigans of both political parties and they hate him for it. Both parties are trying to get rid of him because he reminds them every day (through his actions) that they are breaking their oath of office. BOTH parties. Those that think Pubbies are better are naive. It's all about power. Both parties love it ... and both parties want it ... and will do whatever is necessary to get it ... and keep it.
What's your point? Can't you see obvious problems in unilaterally extending our jurisdiction to other countries? How much more interventionist can you get?
If you would be so kind and if you have the time create a thread two if it gets too big. If you do not have the time, kindly ping a friend that could check in from time to time.
Thank you in advance and now I'm off to {CENSORED}.
If he doesn't, I will take it, and other oppsoition to such letters of Marque and Reprisal, as red flags that there's more than meets the eye going on here vis-a-vis "America's New War."
If this bill were being introduced by Jesse, you'd think it was a great idea.
