Ted Maher -- former Special Forces; Neonatal Intensive Care nurse
American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.
Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).
Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.
Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.
The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.
Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.
Ted Maher -- a giver of life, not a taker -- needs our help.

Add to this outrage that Ted has not had a consular visit since October. Despite the flowery assurances of the State Department's Secretary of Flatulence Patrick Hegarty.
He has another title, in his letter to me in a steaming stack of such compost.

The White House has asked me to respond to your letter concerning Mr. Theodore Maher, an American citizen currently incarcerated in Monaco.
The State Department is aware of Mr. Maher's situation and is workintg with the U.S. Consulate General in Marseille, which in turn is working with local authorities and his family to provide all appropriate assistance. In the absence of a Privacy Act waiver for the general public from Mr. Maher, I am unable to disclose any additional information about him.
The protection of Americans abroad is the highest priority of the State Department. I would like to thank you for your concern with regard to Mr. Maher's case and assure you that we will continue to provide consular assistance to him.

Dear Secretary Powell,
Reference letter from U.S. Representative Sue Kelly (R-NY) regarding Monaco's wrongful imprisonment of TED MAHER two years without trial.
TED MAHER has not had a consular visit since October.
The judge in the case has left for Paris after two years, and now TED MAHER may be held ANOTHER TWO YEARS WITHOUT TRIAL.
TED MAHER is innocent, and was forced to sign a false confession in French which he does not read, write or speak.
TED MAHER was held three days in four-point restraint, catheterized, deprived of sleep, and threatened with his wife's indefinite detention, as well as IMPLIED HARM TO THEIR THREE YOUNG CHILDREN should he not sign.
Monaco police kidnapped Ted's wife and stole her passport to use in extorting Ted's false confession. This is protested in writing by internationally famous lawyer Michael Griffith to U.S. Consulate Martha Melzow in Marseilles.
I urge you to intercede on behalf of this honorable veteran, caring and accomplished neonatal nurse, loyal husband, loving father who has been framed on false charges while a vast panoply of exculpatory evidence remains suppressed.
Please contact U.S. Representative Sue Kelly in response to her letter to you of November 13 of this year seeking your assistance in this matter.

PARIS (AP) - The lawyer and fiancee of the man known as Carlos the Jackal said Thursday that she will represent Zacarias Moussaoui, the French citizen indicted for conspiracy in the Sept. 11 attacks.
Paris lawyer Isabelle Coutant-Peyre said she would defend Moussaoui's rights as a French citizen, such as trying to protect him from the possibility of the death penalty, which France opposes.
Moussaoui, a 33-year-old Frenchman of Moroccan descent now in U.S. custody, was named Tuesday by a federal grand jury in the first indictment directly linked to the suicide hijackings. He was charged with six felonies, including four that carry the death penalty.
``I am a French lawyer, he is French. So I am going to do everything in my power to ensure his rights as a French citizen,'' Coutant-Peyre said in a telephone interview. Moussaoui already has a lawyer in the United States.
Coutant-Peyre said Moussaoui's mother, Aicha, asked her to represent her son.
Two months ago, Coutant-Peyre said she would marry Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, who is serving a life sentence in France for the 1975 murders of two French secret agents and an alleged informer. The Venezuelan-born Ramirez, who was arrested in Sudan in 1994, is also under investigation for three terrorist attacks in the 1980s.
A Muslim convert, Ramirez recently told the France Soir newspaper that he felt ``relief'' at the Sept. 11 attacks. In 1998, Ramirez told France Soir that he wished good luck to Osama bin Laden, who had been indicted for the embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.
Coutant-Peyre said she hoped Moussaoui will be brought back to France. She said she has not yet spoken with Moussaoui, nor does she know where he is being held.
Coutant-Peyre suggested Moussaoui has been made a scapegoat.
``There is, in the end, a big manipulation to designate him as one of those responsible for what happened on Sept. 11,'' she said. ``It is normal, of course, that the American authorities are charged with looking for those responsible for what happened - but not to find a public scapegoat.''
The French government said Wednesday that it would object to the death penalty for Moussaoui, and Justice Minister Marylise Lebranchu said France would provide him consular protection - meaning it would work to assure he has a fair trial according to French standards.
Note in France a big deal is made by its government--in cahoots with Madame Carlos le Jackal--to provide consular protection for "le Miserable Petit Scapegoat" and to assure he has a "fair trial according to French standards"!
According to "French standards"--per their new "terrorism law"--they may hold anyone without charge or trial for FOUR YEARS!.
While they imprison our innocent American Ted Maher two years and counting without trial--their Madame Carlos le Jackal sails the tricolor gunboat to our shore to demand we release their terrorist! No one tops the French for surrealistic arrogance!
