Jensen's words his own
In his Sept. 14 Outlook article "U.S. just as guilty of committing own violent acts, (FreeRepublic article.... U.S. just as guilty of committing own violent acts") Robert Jensen was identified as holding a faculty appointment at the University of Texas at Austin. Jensen made his remarks entirely in his capacity as a free citizen of the United States, writing and speaking under the protection of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
No aspect of his remarks is supported, condoned or officially recognized by The University of Texas at Austin. He does not speak in the University's name and may not speak in its name.
Using the same liberty, I convey my personal judgment that Jensen is not only misguided, but has become a fountain of undiluted foolishness on issues of public policy.
Students must learn that there is a good deal of foolish opinion in the popular media and they must become skilled at recognizing and discounting it.
I, too, was disgusted by Jensen's article, but I also must defend his freedom to state his opinion. The First Amendment is the bedrock of American liberty.
Larry R. Faulkner, president The University of Texas
at Austin

I just called the University of Texas in Austin and asked for the Dept. of Journalism. Spoke with the secretary and she said " Would you like to speak with Bob?" I said sure and she put me right through with Robert Jensen. He said he was busy with a student meeting and couldn't speak to me right then. ... Call him. I think the secretary is tired of shielding this guy. I'd give you the number but that is a no-no. You can easily get it from 512 information. Lets Freep the hell out of this commie bastard. And believe me anybody who claims to be a Wobbly is a communist!

Gracey, thx for the bump on Jensen. I'd already called his office and home numbers and left him scathing msgs the day this came out...
I'm still not sure about the freep this Sat at 3PM, I'm taking 2 of my sons (ages 13, 7) to the UT game at 6PM. So, I'd have to bring them along but am worried about it getting ugly. I do want to help shout these commies down... freepmail me if you have updates.
Regards.

Re your #4: It reminded me of a Ted Nugent quote: "An idealistic liberal with an agenda is more dangerous than a Hell's Angel with an attitude."
