God be praised you're alive and well. Thanks for relating your experiences of 9/11. This doesn't mean you'll get a free pass in debates from now on, though. ;-)
Your servant, sir.

Thank you so much for your detailed account. I'm glad you are safe and sound. As a fellow NJ FReeper who works in Manhattan (although in midtown, not downtown), I didn't even try to get home on Tuesday. I walked from W. 51st to W. 86th, where my brother and his family lives, at around 1PM. It was eerie for NYC. The vehicular traffic was virtually nonexistent. Every fifteen or twenty minutes one could hear military jets flying overhead.
Frankly, I wasn't too keen on taking the train to NJ through the tunnels on Tuesday (during the brief windows when the westbound trains were running). Although I wasn't near the WTC, being in Manhattan, part of me kept waiting for the next shoe to drop. Thank God it didn't and thank God you're OK.

So, you live in 'The Garden State?' My wife (the most wonderful person in the world - if you care to dispute the point, call your doctor now ;>) is
FROM New Jersey, as are
BOTH of my best friends (one of whom I met in Colorado, the other in California). So maybe I should 'cut you some slack.'
Then again, maybe not. You have an awful high standard to live up to.
Have at it... ;>)

Motion to table nullification, secession, Andy Jackson, the Whigs, Calhounism, and Lincoln until further notice ;-)
My heart just isn't in it anymore. It's just gonna have to wait.

I'm glad to see you're OK, Huck. Some of those photos of New York reminded me of scenes of Atlanta & Columbia after they were attacked by terrorists during the late unpleasantness.

Who is John Galt and I knew you must be a yankee :) Glad you're safe and thanks for the graphics and the effort to inform us.

I tell you, I was deep into a book called Arguing Over Slavery, which recounts the battles in the House of Representatives in the 1830's when the whole world changed on me. Haven't cracked it open again since Tuesday.
I know just what you mean; I haven't picked up any of my reference material since then, either, and have no real plans to. Well, at least as far as you and other civilized debating partners. I am currently engaged with a very hateful individual who has thrown the "n word" around with much proclivity.
I am not sure when I'll be in the mood to argue American history. All I can say is I hope y'all aren't thinking of seceding now. We have far too many hard hearted warriors in the Southland to go into a war without them.
I don't think you have a thing to worry about. I can give you a guarantee from this old Sailor/Hillbilly that secession is the last thing on my mind and nor do I want to hear another thing about it for a good long while; right or wrong, good or bad, then or now. A reporterette (my lovely wife) on the ground in Georgetown, SC, tells me that it is Stars and Stripes as far as the eye can see. Even the most ardent Southern supporters have put Old Glory back over top of their Confederate Battle Standards. I have taken the Bonnie Blue down in exchange for a 3'x 5' good ol' US of A flag. Don't think for a minute that the good people of South Carolina, or anywhere down "here" for that matter are happy this happened in either DC or New York. They fully understand what this means and what it takes to stop it in the future.
Best regards
God Bless
Looking forward to talking to you again soon.

I am back in Manhattan. 55 Water St. Smoky down here. Smells inside the building. Mask on. Proud to be here though. Troops on every corner. Gotta go now. Be well.

Excellent report, Huck.
I have a question. In the first aerial photo...where would the Brooklyn Bridge be?
Understand that I have never been to NYC and am not familiar with the landmarks.

We walked from Water St, down to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, walked north on the East River Drive to the Brooklyn Bridge. Hope that helps.

I know you didn't, Huck, I just wanted to give you a sitrep from Dixie. You must forgive me for allowing my partisanship of the last few days to cloud my responses.
