I bought mine in September of '01 as well. Interest rates were really low then.

I got up late that day and turned on the local comedy radio show and I was absolutely shocked to hear what was going on. The internet was overloaded and the news sites would barely come up. I didn't see it all until I got home and watched the news that night. One of the gas stations in my town had $5.70 a gallon gas for an hour or two until the state stepped in.
