Hong Kong and Taiwan ain't China. They've been more Westernized.
The folks in charge of CCTV (the Chinese government) have NO idea how to sell their BS to America -- and, as I said, IMHO, they'll blow it. And I'd sure welcome that!
The people I visited with in both places told me that no matter what (Hong Kong then ruled by British) and Tawain being "free" that they all knew they belonged to China and that both places were infiltrated with China mainland government people to watch and learn everything from Westeners being allowed there. Remember this ('68-'69) was before Nixon "opened" the door to China.
