"We want to give you full access to every cabled TV in the USA, but in order for it to be legal, you have to let us broadcast, in English, somewhere in China. It does not need to be a big area..."

So a small part of a small province near Hong Kong gets "Friends" reruns and the USA gets news and enlightening cultural information.

Way back when Clinton was president, he said opening trade with China will make them more like us, but looking at Chinese history, they have mostly assimilated every invader. I thought it much more likely that we would become more Chinese.

Now they can broadcast their culture to us, and it probably will be packaged and produced by American producers and won't even look Chinese after the first year or two. Think they will teach us about forced pregnancy tests and abortions?

Just as an aside, in Earth in the Balance Algor said he wanted to reduce the world population and control who breeds, how Chinese of him!

I'm not so sure this is a bad thing. It's a chance for people to see Communists in action. They do NOT understand our culture at all and I truly believe have no other choice than to be seen for exactly what they are by literally everyone. But that's just my opinion. Could be a real eye-opener, though!

If you've never seen the N. Korean News website where some nice Japanese folks translate the ONLY news disseminated in North Korea, it's frightening. This garbage could wake up even the most mind-numbed sheeple.

I posted this on another thread, it is relevant here:

another posters comment:

" I, for one, would think it to be a good thing to see what the Chinese government's "spin" on events is, in order to better understand how to counter their moves... "

My reply:

You make an excellent point, and I agree with you that it is free trade.

It also is a deal with the devil! As far as spin, there is a great deal of coordination between the broadcast media, print media, school curricula, and "the news" already*. Allowing the Chicoms into our media marketplace will, I fear, just be another way to amplify spin, another way to promote propaganda and dezinformatzia and tout it as "another viewpoint", when it will only be the same viewpoint from a calculated angle. If NPR or PBS does a piece on missile defense, ChicomTV can chime in with the "truth" about the terrible Chinese guidance systems that are so unreliable.

Free trade must be balanced with patriotism and a knowlege of history.

*Schoolkids across the US were taught about Frida Kahlo, the Mexican Communist bisexual artist and activist, and right after that NPR did a piece on her, and she was brought up several times on PBS. Now, the Post Office is printing a commemorative stamp, how timely! What a series of coincidences!

Since when does everybody cite People's Daily for fair and balanced news?
