A known member of Hezbollah, for example, was convicted in 2001 in a federal court in Michigan for trying to smuggle guns into Lebanon. An undercover agent saw the man buy a weapon at a gun show without a background check.

Typical of gun haters, these two sentences have nothing to do with each other.

1. Sure, the Hezbolla dude went to Michigan to buy a gun to smuggle into Lebanon.

2. If the undercover agent didn't do anything about the gun buy, was it illegal?

3. The whole article keeps saying "unlicensed seller" when the correct term is "private seller." And that statement the everybody who sells guns needs a federal license is totally false,

"Sure, the Hezbolla dude went to Michigan to buy a gun to smuggle into Lebanon.."

LOL. I see you noticed that too. Kind of reminds me of the Randy Weaver propaganda, how he took a shotgun, shortened the tube 1/4 inch too much for those "street gangs" in California.
I guess we were supposed to believe they still had shotguns in California, but the nearest hacksaw was in Idaho.

It's disgusting in light that I know of a suspected terrorist who was handed over dozens of guns by a girlfriend. The judge knows it, lawyers know it, cops, FBI & ATF know it, but since it's a woman, hubby can't touch her for doing so.

Result is we have this gigantic feminist loophole, driven knowingly by the courts, but no one will do anything because the courts are always right & love to foment murders on the streets through criminals so as to accuse law abiding citizens of recklessness.

Count on the media to count the jury votes for us on that too.

This is the jewel in the crown of the "US Gun shows supply terrorists" - yet I'm not even sure that it was established that Ali Boumelhem, although not a model citizen, was an actul Hezbollah member.

As for the case, it was a Customs case, the defendent attempted to ship a forty foot freight container of autro parts that was also found to contain

Customs agents discovered, hidden in a car door, (1) twelve boxes of nine millimeter ammunition, (2) three boxes of 7.65 millimeter ammunition, (3) a Remington twelve-gauge shotgun, (4) an upper receiver for an M-16 or AR-15 assault rifle, (5) hand grips for the barrel of an AR-15, (6) flash suppressors, (7) a butt stock assembly for an M-16 or AR-15, (8) and some speed loaders. Custom agents also discovered another twelve-gauge shotgun , along with a two-way radio, in a shopping bag that had been wrapped in a shirt.
This seizure of a couple of shotguns and a few hundred rounds of handgun ammunnition ended the major source of supply of arms to Middle East terrorists.

"Sure, the Hezbolla dude went to Michigan to buy a gun to smuggle into Lebanon."

From what I understand of that case, the guy was living in the US (naturalized?) and was going to gun shows to buy guns and sent them to family members in Lebanon. The family members then dispersed them. The guy had supposedly sent a couple of .50 BMG rifles (Barrett type) already and was supposedly looking at another to send off. I have a feeling that if the guy had not been middle eastern (I think 9/11 hadn't happened yet) and looking at the .50 he would not have raised any suspicion.
