Did you ever touch one of the bags after you put something in it?
"Do not remove items from the bag" says FemAutoVoice.
"I'm sorry..." I mumbled.
"I said, 'put the damn stuff back in the bag.'"
Looking around to see if everyone was noticing this embarrassing exchange, I reached out to replace the item.
FemAutoVoice screeched, "Are you touching the bag. Hands off the bag. What are you some kind of idiot?!" . Then (I swear) FAV cackled a hideous little laugh as it issued new instructions.
"Go Directly to the customer assistance clerk."
I looked up into the blue-green visage and pale, deadly eyes of the Wicked Witch of Krogers.
"I'll get you my prettie.... Ahhh hah hah hah hah hah!"
Never do that. Never.
First time I used one of those I noticed as I left my spinach on the counter too long was the voice saying "Please move your spinach". That spurred a thought and next time in the store I went looking down the fruit and veggie aisles trying to find something to buy just to make it say something funny.

press the Spanish button, just for kicks.
if/when you can't figure it out, the clerk will come over and treat you like you ride the short bus. when they're done, you can say politely in a quite American accent, "thanks a bunch!"
Oooh, I hate that falsely cheerful voice that Smith's (western Krogers)has. "Please place the item you are attempting to steal back in the bag!"
