What lessons are we teaching our kids if we back off on any rule, and let the students have their ways. I learned to question authority....which is a reason why I'm not a democrat.

Some rules have no legal basis, and should be broken. What if we had that attitude in the 1700's, we might still be a British Colony. Cheers to that!

BTW - If those 500 want to make a difference, they should ELECT a new school board The schools boards in our district work for us. Let's not forget that.

"Good for the school. She knew the rules going into this. Is she can't follow rules, then she should be banned."BS
By law, she was legally allowed to smoke. The school had no right to dictate what she can legally do, while she is away from school.
I am sick and tired of all of you weak minded people, thinking that smoking is the worse possible thing a person can do.
Smoking is definitely not a healthy thing to do, but I don't think it is nearly as severe, as the media has portrayed it over the years.
I call you weak minded, because you have been brain-washed over the years and don't realize it.

Good for the school. She knew the rules going into this. Is she can't follow rules, then she should be banned. She is of legal age, using a legal product, the school has no right to dictate her behavior outside school hours.

My error. The activity is also ILLEGAL in the foreign country. Still, it is still troubling.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/09/24/sex.indictment/ Man charged in U.S. for child sex crimes abroad
Thursday, September 25, 2003 Posted: 10:42 AM EDT (1442 GMT)
(CNN) -- Marking the first case of its kind, a federal grand jury in Seattle, Washington, indicted a 69-year-old man Wednesday for traveling abroad to engage in illicit sex with young boys.
The legal significance of the case is the government's first use of a provision of the "Protect Act" signed into law by President Bush just five months ago.
The legislation received much fanfare because it expanded the Amber Alert system, which enables travelers to assist in spotting kidnapped children. But another part of the law makes it a federal crime to engage in illegal sexual conduct in foreign countries. (Full story)
If you go to Amsterdam, make sure the sex & drugs are legal. It also looks like they have to prove you traveled with the intent to commit, etc.
I can still see being prosecuted in a home state for travelling to a different state to engage in an illegal activity becoming a seperate crime, in addition to the crime itself. For our own good, of course.

If she were pregnant they would probably honor her as corageous for continuing school.

Such a truly ridiculous reply tells me several things about you. You A) probably are not a parent, B) haven't had to deal much with educrats (HINT: they're generally power-mad idiots; that's just the truth), C) you are quick to roll over when anyone you perceive to be in a position of authority decides to issue an edict, legal or not.

I was thinking along the lines of harper valley pta... Even though I was a kid when it came out, I remember some of it. Everyone wanted to control the entire town..but in reality...all the controllers were total hypocrites, and were immoral behind closed doors.

HARPER VALLEY P.T.A.
Jeannie C. Riley
- words and music by Tom T. Hall
I want to tell you all a story 'bout a Harper Valley widowed wife
Who had a teenage daughter who attended Harper Valley Junior High
Well her daughter came home one afternoon and didn't even stop to play
She said, "Mom, I got a note here from the Harper Valley P.T.A."
The note said, "Mrs. Johnson, you're wearing your dresses way too high
It's reported you've been drinking and a-runnin' 'round with men and going wild
And we don't believe you ought to be bringing up your little girl this way"
It was signed by the secretary, Harper Valley P.T.A.
Well, it happened that the P.T.A. was gonna meet that very afternoon
They were sure surprised when Mrs. Johnson wore her mini-skirt into the room
And as she walked up to the blackboard, I still recall the words she had to say
She said, "I'd like to address this meeting of the Harper Valley P.T.A."
Well, there's Bobby Taylor sittin' there and seven times he's asked me for a date
Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lot of ice whenever he's away
And Mr. Baker, can you tell us why your secretary had to leave this town?
And shouldn't widow Jones be told to keep her window shades all pulled completely down?
Well, Mr. Harper couldn't be here 'cause he stayed too long at Kelly's Bar again
And if you smell Shirley Thompson's breath, you'll find she's had a little nip of gin
Then you have the nerve to tell me you think that as a mother I'm not fit
Well, this is just a little Peyton Place and you're all Harper Valley hypocrites
No I wouldn't put you on because it really did, it happened just this way
The day my Mama socked it to the Harper Valley P.T.A.
