[history]
Capitalism has its advantages, comrade.
A federal judge in Manhattan yesterday said American trademark law protects Cuba's premium Cohiba brand of cigars and ordered a New York company to quit selling stogies under that name.
Cohibas were originally created in Cuba as the personal cigars of Fidel Castro and were later given as gifts to visiting heads of state and other dignitaries.

My husband loves Cohiba cigars.....this means that he can no longer get them at the cigar shop. They were counterfiet anyway, right?
To: submarinerswife
They were not counterfeit Cubans. They were sold as Dominican cigars using the same name as the Cuban cigars. This is actually a common practice. H. Upmann, Montecristo, Partagas, and many others do the same thing.

Your husband may have been acquiring Cohibas that carried the Cuban label. If so, they may have been counterfeits or they may have been the real deal.

Actually, many brands are like this. The original owners of the brands left Cuba and opened shop in Latin America.

My husband's Cohibas are dominican.
To: submarinerswife
He's lucky then in a way. He can now move on to much better Dominicans like Arturo Fuente. Or even non-Dominicans like Padron.

Thompson Cigar Co. says even the Dominican Cohibas get counterfeited, and I can vouch that the quality varies a lot. I bought 4 of them from a shop in New Jersey, loose out of a box, and one was fabulous, the other three, nothing to brag about.

He likes the Fuente and the CAO.
My ex-husband sent him some cigars from Italy for his birthday. They were the smoothest that he has ever had. They were called "Guantanamera". Unfortunately he can't get them anymore since my ex husband went to Iraq.

He is a member of Thompson Cigars. His regular cigar shipment is Belmondo, but I like to buy him a treat from the local cigar shop once in a while.

My husband's Cohibas are dominican. Then he will need to switch brands. I recommend Davidoff Millenium Edition. Same price-point, brand panache, quality, and a little more robust.

Are then maduros? He likes the natural/connecticut.

Actually, many brands are like this. The original owners of the brands left Cuba and opened shop in Latin America. I suppose Cohiba is treated different legally because they were never a private brand nationalized by the State. They were created originally by the State, for the State head.

Are then maduros? He likes the natural/connecticut.No, they are similar in coloration to Cohibas: a little darker than EMS. I forget the term for it.

Where can I find these?
